Democracy is a good idea in theory but difficult in practice. We are seeing that even in mature democracies like U.K. and U.S. Brexit was a democratic decision to embrace poverty. Trump's election was a democratic decision to choose chaos. For a developing country, businesses know democracy implies chaos. That is why importers like the stability of non-democracies like China and Vietnam over India. China would have been ungovernable if it were a democracy instead of being a success story it is now. I bet if a poll is held a majority of Chinese would choose to have more money in their pockets than 'democracy'. Probably a single digit percent of Chinese feel sad that they are not voting for their government. Rest of them are busy figuring how to earn money and enjoy life.
