India to order 2nd batch of 36 Rafales in 2020

When are you going to realize Its a G2G deal..
And yes it happens to every country and your Military not immune to these kinda stuff too!!?
Go and read the military corruption of PLAN. You'll know
You see us paying billions for imports? For the past 5 years, I only heard of the s-400 and SU-35, that too for reverse engg purposes.

.
They are going to ORDER 36 Rafale in 2020? So when will they arrive?

I thought the MMRCA was to meet a deficiency in Indian squadron numbers back in 2001...

Kind of late don't you think? Shouldn't you order them now... and in much bigger numbers?

The production line for india will be open.. the d3livery for the first jet begins in 2019 and ends in 2022 so the 2020 order delivery will continue from 2022 without a delay.

Lol kid... So after all the bragging of self reliance that came from all the reverse engineering you couldn't make a reliable SAM or jets and engines so finally you ordered Su35 and S400... not to mentioned still being relied on russia for engine....

Yes.. yess.. we reverse engineered weapons.. that's why russia was in our thraught

.
India started with fifty su30 first then ordered batches in 2007 and 2010.

French claim rafale is every bit as good as any plane in the world including f35.

India will order more batches guaranteed

.
This was already predicted long back, India always buys more after the initial batch.
Today Rafael is one of the most modern fighter jets, only the American stealth aircraft's have better tech.
In India's present neighbourhood, the Rafael is more than a match.

Do you think Rafale will be obsolete at that time? Cause you will have to receive the second batch around year 2023 to 2026, when China had inducted 300 plus J20.

No.

Orders will be placed based on newer black and our assessment of threat. I am pretty sure that assessment will not be as shallow as a Chinese chest thumping post.

India needed 136 MMRCA jets way back in 2001 due to a massive shortfall in squadron strength...

Don't you think ordering 36 more Rafale in 2020 is way too late. Why not order a much larger number right now?

.
Because Indians believe all defense expenditure is just a waste , the jets are just insurance.

Insurance only works if you actually have it though.

I see all this talk from India about how India is fully prepared for a "two-front war"... every other month.

Yet look at the colossal shortfall in squadron strength that has existed since 2001. Just order something already, seriously.

Already in progress.
IAF has added over 210 Su30 MKI aircraft, has ordered another 123 Tejas, 36 Rafale and upgraded the Jaguar (DARIN III: EL/M 2052 AESA FCR, AIM132 ASRAAM, CBU105 capable etc), Mirage 2000(to the -5 Mk2 standard with the new RDY2 Radar, HMD, MICA Missiles etc) and the MiG29 (UPG program which gives the 29s new RD33 Series 3 Engine, Zhuk M2E Radar, Additional internal fuel volume, full A2G capability, EW systems etc)
So capability wise, the IAF is in a far more comfortable position.
The MiG21 were pure AD, the MiG27 were pure GA and these are being replaced by fully multirole fighters.

IAF shoul;d stick to Tejas & order 36 more rafales

This is most sensible course of action!
Consolidate platforms and build your strategies around few machines, LCA and Rafale are both very capable fighters in their own right.

They are going to ORDER 36 Rafale in 2020?
I believe last of Indian Rafale (from current deal of 36 + 18 rights reserved) will be executed till 2021 (3 years after first fighters arrive in 2018), so 2020 is a reasonable date.
Even for Su 30 MKIs, several orders were placed after initial 30 were ordered and now almost 2 decades later, IAF operates 2 largest fleet of Flankers outside Russia. I won't be surprised if same is course of action for Rafale too.

Do you think Rafale will be obsolete at that time? Cause you will have to receive the second batch around year 2023 to 2026, when China had inducted 300 plus J20.
Thats not the point buddy.
China would have inducted J31 as well by that time frame and hence Chinese inventory of fifth generation fighters would be much higher.
however India needs to look at the situation from different perspective. It is given we cannot match PLAAF on one is to one number basis and planners would therefore take into account, actual threat perception point of view. My views are IAF is taking into account J-10 andJ-11, which have similar or matching capability.
While we can still debate on how Rafale compares with LO/VLO platforms (@Picdelamirand-oil @Vergennes @BON PLAN ), it is a mighty mean machine in its own right. & if we consider 4+ generation fighters, Rafale can take on any of its contemporary peer in the region.
& given Rafale is replacing several platforms (MiG 21, MiG 27 and in future Jaguar and Mirage 2000), it is a good investment, from commonality point of view.

No it won't.... if its going to be obsolete IAF will never buy even whoever is placed the order recently wouldn't have done it too. It took on f22 and gave a kick right in the butt.
And please be aware of FGFA post 2020 for IAF as well...

@Sloth 22
Hey bro... your inputs

There would be a second order for IAF from French line , however the numbers , I am not sure. It should be around ~27 .

If , if MII doesn't work out[which is highly unlikely ] , then around ~60 from French line would be ordered and that would be last.

Further there is a requirement from Navy too, but its not clear from where they would come, considering the first batches would be used on INS Vikrant too, the first batches for Navy should come from French line, while further for next ACs would come from Indian Line.

Don't start dancing on some fake articles, let the government sources confirm it. Even I don't believe them sometimes, but they are the last source for any news.

India and china is not in a state of constant conflict like india and Pakistan.

The one war was 1962 since then there has been 3 wars with Pakistan.

China is not a overtly aggressive power . HECK they don't even threaten TAIWAN with who they demand unification.

Chinease military power is currently located and centered around South China Seas and its industrial heartland.

A mere 20% of chinease military power is centred in around himlayers and indo Tibet borders.

The likely hood of a indo china conflict is 0-5% in contrast Pakistan between 50-75% .

So in this scenario RAFALE SU30MKI MIRAGE & TEJAS is a fine mix

I always felt this highly likely

The indian air force are now seeing first hand just how advanced and future proof the magnificent rafale is .

The Air force are pushing the MOD that they want nothing else other than more rafales.

THE RAFALE F4 is to show cased in 2 years and IAF has keen eye on this fighter

indian financial position is getting g stronger year in year out. BY 2020 the GDP will be over $3 trillion and defense budget over $65 billion per year.

IAF shoul;d stick to Tejas & order 36 more rafales

36 addtional Rafales and 57 Rafale-Ms will be ordered off the shelf from France by 2019, in the meantime DA will set up a production line in India for an addtional 90 Rafales (minimum).
