What's new

India to ink Rs 25,000 crore Sukhoi and helicopter deals with Russia

^^Imports, not exports:smokin:

Of course :)

42 new MKI... i don't understand, when indian govt will understand. 42 is not a small number, they should have gone for 42 new SU-35 (or su 35 MKI) then new MKI.

Its same platform, so wont be difficult to digest TOT.

Simple, because this should be build on the HAL productionline in India, as an addition to the 140 we already build. It doesn't make sense to change the productionline now to a single seat type, with different engines, no canards..., for just a small order.
Moreover, since the Flanker plattform itself has a lot of similarities, the main capabilities will be the same anyway:

Su 35S / Super 30

Hardpoints: 12 / 12 (possibly twin pylons for the centerline hardpoints, which can be fitted to all Flankers)
Payload: 8t / 8t
RCS reduction: addition of composites and RAM coatings / addition of composites and RAM coatings
Engine: 117S engines with 3D TVC / AL 31 engines with 2.5D TVC
Maximum internal fuel: 11,500 / 9720
Ferry range: 4,500Km / 3000Km
Cockpit displays: 2 main MFDs / 2 main MFDs
IRST: Yes / Yes
Radar: PESA / AESA

Actually, the Su35 is based on modernised techs of the MKI (BARS PESA => IRBIS PESA, AL31 with 2.5D TVC => 117S with 3D TVC, modernised avionics...), the Super 30 upgrade will catch up in some fields, in others it will even surpass the Su35, so what's the point for India to go to Su35?

No, i don't think current MKIs can carry a brahmos, for that the weight of the missile has to be reduced drastically & airframe of sukhois has to be strengthened which will be done in super-sukhois, again it will carry only one brahmos on it's centreline.
@sancho pls correct me if wrong.

That's correct, the current MKI can't since the weight of Brahmos is 1t higher that the KAB 1500, which currently is the heaviest load the MKI could carry. That's why the structural changes of the airframe are needed, with the future plan of developing Brahmos light, to carry them on the inner wingstations too.

Are we not getting super sukhoi ? This news says that we ll get 42 sukhoi MKI.
IF we are getting sukhoi MKI only then do we have any different deal for super sukhoi ?

Yes the 42 new once will be Super 30s and the plan is to upgrade the first 80 to 100 MKIs to the same stadard as well.

You guys said india could produce MKI by yourself, why buy 42 more from Russia?

 Because the fighters remains Russian, even if they will be build in India.

Brahmos is too big for any fighter in the world to carry.

Don't worry, the Russians are already fitting it to the MKI.

All these big deals go to foreigners. We imported planes from Russia 40 yrs ago, we import them today. We are the end loosers. We need to learn to build heavy helicopters and large planes.
Need to learn? That's what we've been trying to do for the past 4 decades and have a cropper! :P

This is a nice way of bolstering other countries economies at our cost. Jeeez!
