This is all BS dude - when the NK missile test failed, internet conspiracy theorists and/or the NK propagada machine came up with this explanation for their failure.

US did have an airborne laser platform for boost-stage missile defence (Boeing YAL-1), but it was cancelled in 2011 for not being practical and cost-effective.

And this is the system I was referring to. Its just not practical. Cost effectiveness is a different matter. However, I suspect the that space plane has this purpose, as ICBM attacks would be originated from an area. If we can get a platform to the location fast enough and this platform can take down many missiles at a time, then it would be a good system.
