Mate - Explain me this - how come the major protests started last year while the koodankulam project itself was conceived, started in 1980s and 1990s? Now the plant has been constructed ready to go - how come the question of cancer have come up in major way?

The protestors quote Fukushima as the reason for protests but do you know Kalpakkam was affected by Tsunami and about 100 people died not because of nuclear disaster but by natural effects of Tsunami in Kalpakkam. Why not take the example of Kalpakkam and not Fukushima?

You quote 1.2 million people's lives - How come 18 million population in Mumbai - just about 20 kms from Trombay and 9 million population in Chennai - away 70 kms from Kalpakkam is quiet and goes about the business? Are they less educated than your folks?

Trombay is not only susceptible to natural disasters but also to Military threats especially from Pakistan. But not much is heard from people of Mumbai.

As long as there are safe guards in the nuclear plant against Tsunami and other major disasters, the protestors should be satisfied. to which part of TN do u belong??? refer indian history for Brahmins supporting the English rulers. the history of christianity in southern district dates back around 2000years. yes many people converted to christianity during british rule for two reasons.1. to make themselves free from upper caste domination. 2. to gain/protect assets from british raj. but both of the cases do not apply for the southern districts. we were in harmony till the penetration of some F****** pentacost preachers and the rightwing hindu parties like BJP, VHP and RSS.




also remember these districts' literacy rate is above the Indian and States literacy average which is around 90% with KK 100% literacy. so yr arguement of conversion do not apply here.

the core reason for protest against KKNP from KK dist to my knowledge is the cancer rate. the cancer rate in the sothern districts are way higher. already IRE(Indian Rare Earth Limited) is suspected to be the cause. atleast one death in the family will be due to cancer in our district. that is the reason why christian missionaries started the first cancer center of south india in Neyoor.

Blackout, I thank you for arguing the merits of this from a neutral perspective like me bro. The poor are always marginalised in our country for the rich and powerful. Its time to include them in the process, instead of steam rolling our ways on them. The fishermen have valid points. You are second person after Ashoka to actually step up and make arguements as to why this project stinks.

Subi is a good guy also because he brings a valid point at the end of the day, India needs nuclear energy as it is cost effective. But my only issue is to embrace everyone when making such a decision and make the necessary amends to address their concerns. Moving them but providing a livelihood for them and thier families would a great step. But the most imoortant issue would be for India to enact stringent safety controls and practices.

What did these uneducated fishermen find out in Koodankulam that millions of educated folks from Chennai and Mumbai failed to see in the atomic plants near their place nor Dr. Abdul Kalam or other experts failed to see? Why can't these fishermen see how Kalpakkam atomic plant had the same kind of Tsunami but survived without issues? Oil spill happens everywhere across the globe affecting the fishing. How come these fishermen do not protest the port in Tutucorin where oil-ladden ships berth? Bhopal incident happened due to Union Carbide. They live near SPIC chemical plant. How come this did not catch their eye?


Either these fishermen are operating with half-baked knowledge or being manipulated by vested interests feeding them with wrong information. Either way it is wrong.
