India stalling dialogue to avoid negotiation on Kashmir: Aziz
DAWN.COM — PUBLISHED 19 MINUTES AGO
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Satraj Aziz, on Wednesday said India was avoiding dialogue with Pakistan because that meant issues such as Kashmir will have to be negotiated, reported Radio Pakistan.

Contradicting Indian premier Narendra Modi's recent statement in which he placed the onus of stalled talks on Pakistan, Aziz asserted Pakistan was not refraining from talks with its neighbour.

He said Pakistan had plans for extensive talks with India on issues such as Kashmir, Siachen, Sir Creek, economic cooperation, trade, visas and the detainment of fishermen, amongst others.

Aziz went on to say the Indian Army had rejected an earlier agreement regarding Siachen between the two governments, as they had “stakes” in the glacier.

The adviser had earlier said he was doubtful of progress towards the normalisation of ties between the two south Asian rivals, and suggested that the situation be managed to prevent tensions.

He had also credited Pakistan's diplomatic efforts for India’s failed membership bid of the Nuclear Supplier’s Group (NSG).

In a recent interview, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that due to his diplomatic efforts, the world had seen India was not reluctant to engage with Pakistan.

“Our approach has created difficulties for Pakistan, and they find it hard to respond on the matter in the international community,” said Modi.

Modi claimed there are “different types of forces operating in Pakistan”, and asked rhetorically if one has to draw a line or set conditions for dialogue, will it be “with the elected government or other actors?”

After Modi's surprise visit to Pakistan in December last year, the Pakistani and Indian foreign secretaries were scheduled to meet to discuss modalities regarding the Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue agreed upon during Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj's visit to Islamabad for the Heart of Asia conference in December.

However, the attack on an Indian Airforce base in Pathankot in January this year proved as a big blow for any prospects of constructive dialogue between the neighbouring countries.

Dialogues work if both sides are willing to see things from each-other's perspective and make necessary compromises. No party will be interested in negotiations if there is no benefit to be gained from it. So, the million-dollar question is -- What does Pakistan bring to the table..?

.
What is there to benefit for india from these lame duck talks ?
Pakistan does not gives land route to afghanistan. So why should india talk, when there is nothing to gain from ?

.
I do not know about others. But why does Pakistan keep harping on Siachen. Its welcome to pack off its tent on its side and GoI will give an international assurance that it wont cross that particular point.

Reg Kashmir, an wonderful opportunity was lost 2 times. Once during 1999 in Kargil war, next in 2008.
We are not really interested in it. Not anymore.

He makes it sound like it's a trade deal. India is not open for negotiation. When will Pakistan get it?

.
There is nothing in there to talk .J&K is an integral part of India .
And even if they acknowledge that ,India is not interested in a talks .Not anymore.

. .
Every time India tries to talk to Pakistan, Pakistan military does something to throw it off the rails. No point talking if neither the civilians nor khakis are on the same page.

.
He needs to revisit his books.

Why would india want to negotiate on land it already has ?

Actually the peace accord was almost signed between MMS and Musharaf , but he got replaced and we were back to square one.

.
We don't have to talk to Pakistan

We just need to make sure Democracy remains in Pakistan

Because Nawaz and Bilawal will do more harm to Pakistan in the long run
Than any hot conflict

PA refused to sign on the map showing the AGPL.

Without acceptance withdraw is a non starter.

Mr Aziz, first take action against terrorists involved in Mumbai 2008 and Patankot 2016, and then talk of talks. You cannot provide sanctuaries to guys who kills Indians and perpetuate terror activities in India, and ask Indians to come to the table.

Moreover, with whom will India talk to: your government or your army or LeT or JeM. Also be clear on that too. 70 years of talks with Pakistan governments didn't take us anywhere

.
I believe ans is very simple...
Pakistan wants kashmir and it is not possible at any cost.
India wnts to stop terrorists from cross border and it is also possible at any cost.

So why we need to talk????
