India searching another line of fighter jet: Parrikar

Gripen is a good fighter, it scored 4:0 when Thiland royal airforce field aganist PLAAF's Su27 in a combat excercise.

Although Su27 is very old, but still a great performance given by Gripens.

small RCS, very good BVR capabilty.

You forget about GaN AESA Radar, and maybe EW suite.

LM has F-16IQ orders until end of 2017. Will LM stay in competition?
If india doesnt wanna buy, can you take 48 units order from China?:partay: we pay cash.

The point is we need a fighter which can do medium strikes/escort roles at Tibetan air space, not just point interceptor or CAP/CAS.

then you already Su30MKI to do the job, just induct more MKI.

Rafale is way way way too expensive to maintain and operate. IAF is a spoiled babies. All he do is keep asking expensive toys from his father without knowing his father is empty cents.

You think that LM designs all the components in the F-16?
Just because LM wants to ship the product line to India does not mean that the subsystem manufacturers
want to share their knowledge to India.
The US is probably the least interested of all countries selling fighters to share.

SAAB knows a lot about HOW to design a fighter, and that is valueable to India.
Having a product line as well as interested customers is going to be critical.

any1 who has decent brains will analysis the gripen for themselves, taking into account not jsut the 'ToT' offered by the selling nation, but also the feasibility of easy access to spare parts, ease of maintenance under all-weather political liability-proof conditions.

Moreever, Gripen is jsut another light-class fighter.

So is India interested in producing 2 light class fighters at the same time?

take your pick

Yes, India is interested in producing a second single engine fighter besides LCA.
They are choosing between F-16 and Gripen at this time.

It is in the US interest that India is strong, and unlikely that they will block spare parts to India
just because it chooses Gripen.
While conceivable they might block spare parts, that would affect F-16 even worse.

f-16 is not a light class fighter.

Do u know how many countries of origin are there in the diagram?

Also, it's not about spare part blocking only- it's the supply of the spare parts themselves

Wrong Mirage 2000 Support Facility is only at Maharajpur Airforce Station aka Gwalior all 3 SQns based there....

Flights do move to other stations for excercises and return

The same will be true for Rafale too.

Can't go with MKIs all the time.

Just like we have Mig-21s as backbone now which is short legged in Northern theater.

we want the lower tier fighter which should be able to operate at enemy air space with considerable loitering time.

There was a time he said instead of any Rafale , the void would be filled by Su30s alone , remember what happened next ?

And what I am saying, is simply straight facts about what is presently going on.

3 Air bases with 12 Rafales each in the beginning.

And for your information , the first airbase chosen , presently has only 1 hanger for Mi17 operations.

Converting 3 such bases for handling Rafales is a big investment.

And each will have a minimum of 2 proper squadrons.

He said nothing of that sort.

He had always said that the plan B was to raise the Su30MKI availability rate and that is exactly what he has done.

You are free to spin 3, 4 or 12 air bases for Rafale. I do not want to waste my time on useless speculation.

If you have any link that says 3 bases for Rafale and their details then make that public. Othtrwise don't bother to reply.

I hope people start gaining some minimum amount of common sense.
