India seals Rs 70,000 crores missile deal with Russia : MOD sources

Pakistan have only choice to go for HQ-26 from China to safe itself from Indian onslaught. And go ahead with mirv on it missiles and J-31.

This whole confusion starts because there is lack of clarity of what is a S-400 regiment really. Russia by 2020 plans to have 28 Regiments. A Regimental set-in Russia usually has 2 battalions, Each Battalion has 4 Fire units/Batteries with up to 12 launchers. So a Regiment actually has 2 Battalions, 8 Fire Units, 24 Launchers which allows between 96-384 missiles depending combinations of Long & Medium range weapons. Moscow will be protected by 3-4 Regiments which is actually over-kill. India can instead focus on deploying its 15+ regiments in properly spaced out locations allowing for a proper layer of protection across the country. Key cities, installations, bases and sites can then be protected by local stuff like Akash, AAD, PAD. Keep in Mind AF, IN will also induct Barak-NG soon. The point of this deal is cover all of India & Andaman with a warm blanket of formidable protection

A regimental set costs around 500 million. China ordered 6 regimental sets for 3 billion. We will have around 15-18 Regimental sets for around 9 billion plus 2 billion cost of some TOT, Make in India and additional dev since indeed S-400 for India will be MKIed with elements of S-500.

@Abingdonboy : just one question, can AAD and PAD be integrated with S-400 and green pines to have a comprehensive SAM+BMD network under one command ?? Completely automated just a handful of red tapes from DETECT to DESTROY .
I would have thought that was the long term plan, @PARIKRAMA posts on this thread should be read. You can see how the S-400 will be "slotted in" but where the gaps will remain that need to be addressed by other systems. The only way you can have a comprehensive BMD is to have all such systems seamlessly integrated and this is the direction the IAF and SFC have already gone.

And what is it that needs so much "talking about "
Seriously? This is a HUGE multi-billion USD deal involving localised production, offsets, weapon packages, lifecycle support etc etc. This isn't going to just materialise overnight.

Why not a few squadrons of B-2s whilst we are strolling through fantasyland?

UNI is one of India's important news agencies.Back in 1996-97 they were the first ones to report on Su-30 purchase by IAF.

Also India's defence minister has himself confirmed that the groundwork for important deals like S-400 will be laid during his visit so that they can be signed during Modi-Putin meet next month.

Modi using money power to pressure Russia not to sell any defense equipment to Pakistan good for us they are acquiring weapons just for political reasons not for defense needs which proves counter productive.

Wow... how clever..... Do you know the capability of s-400???!!! this is not a political purchase but pure defense purchase for both defense and offence purposes , and we used and stil using s-300 (classified)

Pakistan have only choice to go for HQ-26 from China to safe itself from Indian onslaught. And go ahead with mirv on it missiles and J-31.

Pakistan can't afford them.. intercepting a missile costs 5 times the cost of the incoming missile.. that's the reason still ow they havn't try to dev any missile defenses. J-31 only in imited numbers but S-400 still a threat to that fighter... left with mirv.. chinese assistance needed.

Subs, S-400. 226T helicopters, Su-30MKI for 11 billion dollars or 11 billion for S-400 alone???

India and Russia may have reached an understanding on three multi-billion dollar defence deals at the Intergovernmental Commission for Military- Technical Cooperation (IGC-MTC), which was held in Moscow yesterday.

Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was in Moscow for the IGC-MTC, signed a military- technical cooperation agreement with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu, news agencies reported without giving out details of the agreement.

A PTI report, quoting unnamed Indian sources said a government to government deal to purchase the S-400 Triumf missile system could very well be signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow in December.

The report said that the talks included leasing of a second Russian nuclear submarine to the Indian Navy. The Indian Defence Minister reportedly set the stage for the inking of an agreement with Russia during Modi's visit for the manufacture of 200 Kamov 226T helicopters in India under the 'Make in India' initiative.

However, a press release from the Russian MoD issued after the IGC-MTC, did not make a mention of these three mega defence deals.

"The sides positively assessed the progress of work on the design of a promising multifunctional fighter aircraft (T-50 or PAK-FA stealth fighter) and a multi-purpose cargo aircraft, licensed production of Su-30MKI fighters and T-90S tanks (and) the implementation of the program for the creation and production of BrahMos missile," the press release said.

The three projects mentioned in the press release, the PAK-FA stealth fighter, the cargo aircraft, Su-30MKI licenced production and T-90S tanks have been issues of concern between India and Russia.

Some food for thought (again from another forum source)

We know we need 12-15 system with elements of S500 and make S400 triumf with Israeli radars and indian missile to S400 triumf MKI

It depends on what package India will choose as a system. There are 6 possible options for each individual system:
1 - Full Regimental - 4 Battalions 4 Batteries (4 TELs + 4TLV) each.
2 - Shortened Regimental - 2 Battalions 4 Batteries each;
3 - Shortened Regimental - 2 Battalions 2 Batteries each;
4 - Shortened Regimental - 4 Battalions 2 Batteries each;
5 - Full Battalion;
6 - Shortened Battalion.

Sir i think 11 bilion for the whole package from mki, ssn, helis and s-400... and as for pak-fa once the deal is signed we need to release over 10 billion for the R&D costs from our side..

LOL
That is very naughty of you!

I would love to see India put its acts together, and implement its arm procurement project as announced, for once. From what I have read, it is not sealed deal yet. It is merely an agreement that Russia and India will sit down and talk about S-400 and other things. It is way too early to throw a party for it. Your compatriots have a tendency to over-hype any military procurement, totally opposite to their Chinese peers. I will congratulate Indian members here if this news turns out to be true.

Don't even get me started on it. Too early.. Actually this is one of the major reasons we like the present Govt in power. they act and have a voice.. A foreign policy.. A vision etc. We should've done so much more for the military ages ago.. Anyway, all we can do is wait and watch. Hope for the best.
