They will say why take a small MTA.. take PAK TA the transport version of PAKFA platform..And what of the MTA?
Well , not possible.
I am one of themost optimistic Indians , you all will find. But this is not true.
The IAF during their exercise in Russia had again tested the Su35 with its power plant which is being used as a power plant for PAK FA too. And let me be frank IAF was not at all impressed.
This biggest achievement would be an agreement to build and supply 2 prototypes to IAF by 2017.
Yes for meanwhile we might get 2 squadrons of PAK FA.
But our ultimate goal is the FGFA.
Also these media noises seems to be paid. And if the media is reporting in favour of Russian Aircraft, I can tell the Rafale deal is moving quick .
@Abingdonboy
For 5th generation aircraft India has limited option and this one is the best to sign this contract and first up buy T50 in made Russia and later modi\fy for IAF specific needs as done with SU 30 mki
Almost Two long years has passed.I saw difference only on the color of dothis, earlier it was whit dothi & now it's replaced with saffron one.Antony is replaced by Parrikar and MMS is replaced by Modi. What do you think ?

Thats why I use the word almost before "two'. Ok for your sake its just nearly one & half year( a month less actually). But that doesn't change the fact. How does 26 May 2014 to now translate as 2 years ?
What were you expecting in this time frame ?

Man I cast my vote for modi expecting some swift changes both in defense & socio economic sectors, (since its a defence forum I won't talk any thing about later) I agree that they given order for apache & apart from what they have done all these days?I repeat. What were you expecting in this time ?
You are right IAF was not impressed with the progress of the T-50, but I think the reason for their unhappiness was not related to the power plant which is in the development, but the way Russians are handling the T-50 project. Russians are hiding too much from the IAF, and IAF have doubts on its Stealth features and other 5th Gen fighter plane characteristics, which Russia are promising. IAF sure wants Real 5th Gen Stealth Punch, to have superiority over PLAF qualitatively, not a handsome, agile, 360 degree maneuvering flanker with trapezium airframe. The IAF during their exercise in Russia had again tested the Su35 with its power plant which is being used as a power plant for PAK FA too. Is there any better fighter than T50 provided its accessible to IAF? I think answer is no since there is no f22 offeer to IAF so far.You are right IAF was not impressed with the progress of the T-50, but I think the reason for their unhappiness was not related to the power plant which is in the development, but the way Russians are handling the T-50 project. MEDIA REPORTED ON THE CONTRACT FOR THE FIFTH-GENERATION FIGHTER FOR INDIA
OCTOBER 22, 2015
Translated version :
During the visit of the Indian delegation to Moscow in November can be resolved the issue of the supply of fighters Delhi FGFA (version of the T-50 aircraft for India). This writes the Indian newspaper The Financial Experess citing sources in the Defense Ministry of the country.
According to sources during the visit is planned to sign a firm contract for the supply of 154 vehicles and FGFA agreement on the division of work on the aircraft (which will be collected at the Indian plant of Russian vehicle sets) as well as to pinpoint the number of single and double versions of the fighter.
FGFA is still seen as the most important priority is to upgrade the Indian Air Force the magazine writes citing a senior source in the Indian Defense Ministry. However due to the reduction of the original plans to replenish the number of aircraft purchased new machines fighters may change in the smaller side.
Earlier in January 2015 reported Russia and India agreed on a draft project fighter FGFA. In February 2015 “Rosoboronexport» said agreed that the technical details of the parties moved on to discuss the commercial part of the deal.
In the development of promising fighter FGFA involved Russian holding “Sukhoi” and India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The share of India’s participation in the project was set at 40 percent. Double FGFA aircraft will be armed with the Indian guided missile Astra and the supersonic cruise missile “Brahmos” joint development with Russia.
FGFA prototype was developed on the basis of Russian fighter T-50 (PAK FA). India expects to receive the first prototype test in 2016. Series production aircraft to begin in 2021. Earlier it was reported that the Indian military had planned to adopt 200 such fighters. The total project cost was estimated at $ 35 billion.
But F-35 is also not barred, and could be considered in future who knows. Is there any better fighter than T50 provided its accessible to IAF? I think answer is no since there is no f22 offeer to IAF so far.
This fortnight the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), which is responsible for the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) project, will brief its new boss on a project that will shape the future of the Indian Air Force (IAF) --- the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), an indigenous “fifth-generation” (Gen-5) fighter more advanced than anything on the IAF’s inventory. After briefing Dr S Christopher, the new Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) chief who is also ex-officio director-general of ADA, the AMCA proposal will be taken to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has specifically asked for a briefing. After Mr Parrikar’s green light, the DRDO will seek $4 billion (currently Rs 25,000 crore, but this would fluctuate with the rupee) to design and develop the AMCA, build and test-fly prototypes, and give the IAF a Gen-5 fighter within 15 years.
PAF ACM will visit Moscow in November which made our Eastern neighbour sleepless . And after MMRCA sop their comes another Gassy drama .
But Russian are not French
Good Now we can look into our Stealth fighter option.
