this is close to 1/15 th of total budget.

In India's case it is union budget. My state AP alone has above 1 lakh crores budget

central buget is only of defense and welfare schemes. People live with state budgets..

So no problem there and still the defense budget if 3% of GDP.

This is such an absurd thing to say. What arms race? India spends 7-8 times more than Pakistan on defence with a 8-9 times larger economy. If it was a race Pakistan has already lost it.


India has already allocated vast amounts to moderninsing its military and growing it, Pakistan simply can't compete. India spends <2% of its GDP on defence which is one of the lowest rates to be found amongst large/developing nations. Pakistan on the other hand is spending 5-6% of its GDP and 25% of its national budget on defence. I really fail to see the point in such idiotic remarks.

@Chinese-Dragon We have separate state revenue and budgets for each state, in most cases infrastructure or welfare schemes are jointly funded by the central & state Governments, we also go for PPP model (Public Private Partnership) for infrastructure projects where private entities participate. In China do you have separate central & state budgets, or everything is centralized?

Money isn't everything. Pakistan supports terrorists to even the odds. And then there is the nuclear deterrence. But yeah India has pulled away and Pakistan can no longer keep up even with the terrorists and the nukes. So that is why NS made this statement. It is not foolish. Quite the opposite actually. It is an acknowledgment that things need to change. He is giving himself an excuse to change things.

Our budget is not centralized. States(provinces) have their own huge budgets.

For example, even the state budget of Maharashtra is bigger than the entire budget of Pakistan. And, we have 29/30 states.

We have our own armed forces and we support them in the best way possible under the constraints of own economy.Period. Thats not called a race!!
