India: Pak Rail team arrives today to buy engines

sir,the WDG-5 is the most powerfull diesel loco..as it churns out 5500hp...
but you can get even more powerful latest electric locos with 6500hp capacity like the WAG-7,9 etc...

I read about introducing 12,000HP electric engines on dedicated freight corridors announced during rail budget.

Mate we should not go for 12000 HP engines. It's my personal opinion. 1st thing it's much harder to maintain them. Cost is a factor. Then there is track synchronization with engine performance.
& most important thing,in India stations are much nearer compared to china & other high power loco operating countries. so there a lot of wastage of power during frequent uses of acceleration & brakes. Instead we should target 8000-9000 HP category. It will help to sustain goods trains & speed will be around 100 to 120 km/h. So track clearance will be high. In china their fastest loco doesn't pull single handed. There is need for 2 loco. We can increase the no of locos. problem solved. I believe in higher sustained speed compared to highest speed but frequent speed reduction.

India: Pak Rail team arrives today to buy engines

With the intention of acquiring locomotives from India to re-start its defunct train services, a three-member team of the Pakistan Railways Advisory and Consultancy Services Limited (PRACS), led by managing director Mohammed Junaid Quareshi, will arrive in the Capital for a two-day visit on Thursday.

As reported in the April 21 edition of the Hindustan Times, Pakistan has pitched an upgraded offer to buy or take on lease about 100 railway engines from India.

Of the 520 locomotives in the Pakistan Railways (PR), only 76 were operational in March 2012.
:woot:An acute shortage of locomotives has forced the Pakistan Railways to suspend operations of as many as 128 passenger trains.

The PRACS team, comprising project director Mohammed Hyatt Malik and chief mechanical engineer Mobinuddin, will hold talks with its Indian counterparts at the Railway Infrastruture Technical and Economic Services (RITES). The team will also meet private players, including Escorts India Limited, to explore options of off-the-shelf purchase of compressors, braking systems and other components that the Pakistan Railways need to retrofit its defunct engines.

"This is an exploratory visit, which will be followed by a bigger delegation of the Pakistan Railways," sources said.

The relatively cheaper cost of Indian train engines has attracted Pakistan to the country. The manufacturing cost of a state-of-the-art engine comes up to $2.4 million in India, as opposed to the average cost of $ 3-4 million elsewhere.

The Pakistan Railways also wants to buy or lease older-generation train engines, which come at a much lesser price tag of $1.4 million.

Given the miserable state of finances in the Pakistan Railways, the option of taking engines on lease is considered more practical. Indian train engines are usually given out on lease for Rs. 900 per hour, or Rs. 21,600 per day.

They are also likely to discuss liberalised visas and diplomatic immunity for Indian Railways engineers visiting Pakistan to provide technical assistance.

We should not give them as, if there is some problem with mishandling, improper use or sabotage they will get an excuse to blame India and make conspiracy theories.

Its better for the railway to join in Germans on Railway Engines and Carriages to be developed jointly.

We should give them IRCTC reservation system along with engines and tell them train wil only move. If u have tickets from IRCTC.
I am sure they will not ask for anything after tht.

Germans will give ultra quality but only at ultra price, with the economy perhaps desi is better option.

Oh Pleeze, the best option is the one where everyone makes money, German ultra price or Desi economic price does not matter

..it turned out to be bag full of trash...:omghaha:
...

dude we had previsioned what was indian product gonna turn out so we played smart :rofl:

no money back guarentee, no problem

Of course since we have a corrupt railway minister Bilour who has eaten all the funds designated to railway this is bound to happen.

Now we are going to India for engines. I heard last time that the Chinese engines didn't work for us. What brilliant quality engines are the Indians going to give us now.

Only German engines will work for our trains and they have proven in the past to be capable of hauling our trains long distances WITHOUT breaking down. Every Chinese engine we managed to use has broken down. India has no better quality engines.

Our government is retarded. They have no planning, they aren't even thinking about the future the long run. How long are these engines going to run before they give away. 1 year? 2 years?

No forward thinking, utter corruption... where has our country come to.

Are you joking,Indian trains are amazing.

We have mountainous terrain too and we have trains there too.

german engines are great but expensive.
