India May Buy Over $7Bln's Worth of Arms From Russia During Modi's Visit

When we controlled 30% of world GDP,we gave much preference to welfare which even the Best Socialist state pales in comparison. Now we are going to make sure no Country in this world can challenge us again. What is the use of a country which cannot protect its Freedom and Sovereignty? That is why we stock up "JUST IN CASE SHIT HITS THE FAN" For all your cries,Your country is going into another big Recession, while we are not.We will again regain the Top Position in GDP generation in the world. So shooo!.

Here we go. When did you "control" the world's 30% GDP? Reading too much from Modi's nationalist party's magazines and books lately?? :o:o_O

Second, you should protect yourself, I don't think I ever implied in my post that you should be weak and anyone should come take over your country. But the point was, by spending $ 10 billion in weapons, or $ 15 billion, the protection STILL comes. The $ 5 billion (just making up an example) spend on the public, actually will produce more taxes and a better living style for millions of families, which then allows you to THEN go spend the extra $ 5 billion on weapons later. AFTER you have improved millions of people's lifestyle.

You are a nuclear country, I don't think anyone is stupid enough to get into a war with you, or threaten you. Your main enemies are Pakistan and China (also nuke states), so any one of you, or all of you can spend billions more, but you can't fight each other as the results will be destruction for all (MAD). So....back to my question, now that I've explained how protected you are, it doesn't weaken you if 20-30% of the many billions, went towards human development, so 600 million people, who don't have proper bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen, can actuality have the basic necessities!!

There is necessary need to defend yourself, and there is power phobia. This thread is an example of power phobia!!

One of other friend has answered my question.
Have nothing to talk with you. Thanks.

You didn't need to write this post either. I've responded to your friend. Now I am going to watch how badly you and your friends from India will butcher my common sense based answer, like every other topic where anyone gets involved with Indian community :enjoy:

Exactly, ive said it before in regards to India, no one poses them a threat so spend the money where it matters, any military equipment will never get used and is just a waste of money.

hit up a map and look at India's geographical location, sandwiched between a resurgent china and a volatile Pakistan, both armed to the teeth, and both spending higher percentage of GDP than India, we spend in accordance to our means,

The reality is it is none of what you have claimed above but just lack of your ability to comprehend the idea of defence modernization plan to cope up with the current threat perception in the immediate theater of combat , India's defence expenditure is part of the 15 year modernization plan it is going through, which will include revamping all SAM systems, a net centric damage redundant command and control system, artillery revamp, in addition to acquiring additional redundancies in C4I systems and requisite squadron strength for the combat aircraft. Almost half of Indian armor units are either in midlife refit or facing obsolescence. the budget at which India is maintaining a credible independent defensive force is a feat of it's own and will continue to develop capabilities to project power as it deems fit, no matter how troublesome it is for some.

Are you really that dumb or just trying hard to act like one?

India has fought 4 wars with Pakistan and one with China in less than 7 decades since the fcuking colonizers left. India was thrust into war in Kargil only 15 years ago. That's not even counting literally the hundreds of ceasefire violations and infiltrations taking place every fcuking year with Pakistan (and China).

India faces terrorism like no other country on earth with open support from across the border in Pakistan. India faced terrorism even before you guys knew what terrorism was. We face our 7/11 kind of attacks every year and each with higher number casualties than those seen in London.

What's more, Pakistan has the fastest growing nuclear weapon program and has, time and again, made her intentions clear as to who the target is for those nuclear bombs.

And you have the audacity to tell India that it shouldn't fortify her defenses? What are you? A fcuking moron or a terror sympathizer?

The policy is on and working.
The Defense industry is being opened to private companies and private manufacturing is increasing (including in defense)

It would take a decade for the full effects of the policy to come to fruition.
A small example of the changes already happening in India's defense sector:

Defence exports by private sector increase six-fold after policy changes - The Economic Times

well this is a decent article reply & my question is anwered ... thanx..

India could purchase more than $7 billion’s worth of weapons from Russia, local media reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In late November, the Indian Foreign Ministry told Sputnik that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to visit Moscow on December 24-25.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, breakthrough deals in the military-technical sphere could be expected from Modi’s visit. The total package of contracts is estimated to be worth more than $7 billion.

God of War: Indra-2015 Russian-Indian Joint Military Exercise
A source close to the Indian Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti last week that an agreement on joint Russian-Indian production of Ka-226T helicopters was likely to be signed either during or after Modi’s visit. An ambassadorial source told the media outlet that India’s arms purchase committee had approved the purchase of five S-400 air defense systems which could be worth around $5.8 billion.

Russia and India have enjoyed mutually beneficial strategic relations, especially in the field of defense and military cooperation, since the 1960s. Russia is among India’s foremost weapons suppliers. Over two-thirds of the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy military equipment is Russian- or Soviet-made.

Pak Ordusu (Army) must have a nerve of steel!! When India is buying left and right, nobody is spared - Russia, USA, EU, Pak has to rely on herself and China for the major parts. US equipment are tickle in comparison to Indian procurements. They are still keeping peace with lots of ingenuinities. In the words of our Merhum Erbakan, "We're milking the bulls".

Usual :blah: :blah: by the troll who once claimed that India is just assembling the Arihant class SSBN.

Did you forgot that Indian economy is almost 9 times larger( but population only seven times larger, which means higher per capita income ) & has far higher tax to GDP ratio than Pakistan.

And we only spend 6.5% percentage of our combined centre state budget expenditure. What's percentage of defence spending as percentage of the budget expenditure of Pakistan ?

Here is an interesting fact.India's combined budget expenditure Education ,for FY 2014-15 was $ 66 billion, almost double your national budget.Do remember this, the next time you troll.

Misplaced priorities ?

Do a comparisons between the "beggars" in India and the US???? The beggars you see in the US, are primarily people who don't to work and are on drugs. The beggars and homeless and poor in India (over 600 million people), aren't just the druggies or the ones who don't want to work........these are actual FAMILIES who are NOT getting a decent life style. Instead many billions go towards weapons purchases every years.

78 million people are homeless in India despite the country growing in global economic stature.[1] There is a shortage of 18.78 million houses in the country. Total number of houses has increased from 52.06 million to 78.48 million(as per 2011 census). The rise, he said, has "happened because of the liberal loan given by the banks. The census figures of 2011 show that in total India has 78.87 million households in the country against which it has 78.48 million houses which means there is a shortage of just 0.39 million houses in the entire urban area

Homelessness in India - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

About 78 million people in India live in slums and tenements.[18] 17% of the world's slum dwellers reside in India – making 170 million people "almost homeless.[1]" The number of nouveau riche in India are not enough to supplant the number of homeless people despite India's rapidly expanding economy.[16] Up to 7% of homeless people in the major city of New Delhi are women.[16] More than three million men and women are homeless in India's capital city;[16] the same population in Canada would make up approximately 30 electoral districts.

600 million homeless & poor? bhai kaoun si jagah se data le kar aaye ho. And mind you this 78.87 million is the slum population leaving in slums ( even they are not without roof) I Know this is still a very high number due to non availability of employment or income generation activities in Rural India.

There is no proof for 8% as given in your link.

Pakistan has defensive posture unlike india which is stacking up weapons as if they are getting ready for next world war. On the other hand we never buy more than we need. Secondly you are telling Pakistani stats to an American and here i thought u Indians couldn't get any more dumb

Maybe that's why you spend 3% of your GDP on defence ?

when did Orangzib become an American ?

No offense but there is proof
Poverty headcount ratio at $1.90 a day (2011 PPP) (% of population) | Data | Table

This is from world bank data base. A little research doesnt hurt. Unlike your fellow indian who presented baseless figures of 60% poverty in pakistan i have evidence to support my figures.

Btw i just checked poverty has incread to 21% for people living under 1.9$ a day in India.

I am not here to boast bcz 8% of population of Pakistan means 3.5 million people are almost living like street dogs by just earning 1.9$ so even this figure should be enough to bring shame.

Maybe that's why you spend 3% of your GDP on defence ?

We spend 3% to mount an effective defense. Considering we have Afghanistan in mess on one side and a bloated with hate Modi led government of India on the other 3% is still a tiny amount in my opinion.

This was the figure from the old more inaccurate survey (URP method).

The new survey method (MMRP) reported 12.4% (in 2011) as vetted by the World Bank itself:

So in 4 years time (its 2015 almost 2016 now)...the % would have definitely dropped below 10% by now.

The world bank just hasnt updated to the main site as this method will have to be employed worldwide to be compared from country to country (to ensure apples to apples). They are even willing to take a data break for it because it is much better than the URP method (if you read the report fully).
