India Makes a Serious Bid to Become a Space Power -- Again

India cant manufacture as basic a field weapon as gun. It cant produce a tank. It cant put a local fighter aircraft in production. But its going to space?

:rofl::rofl::rofl::laughcry::laughcry:

1.) There are several public and private companies which have produced field guns... but due to the ghost of the Bofors scam we still havent made serious effort to induct any guns for more than 20 years.

OFB was even sitting on a license to build hundreds of Bofors guns and apparently no one knew about it.

2.) India cannot produce a tank?

Apart from hundreds of T 90s which India has built, ever heard of the Arjun tank which is in service with tank regiments?
It has passed all trials years ago and the IA is very pleased with them. It has already ordered the MKII version of it.

3.) India did put locally designed fighters into production (HAL Marut)... but India missed out an entire generation of aircraft which made the design of the 4th gen Tejas harder. And the sanctions against India did further slow down the process of developing the aircraft while India`s economic and diplomatic improvements meant that India now has access to the worlds best fighters, which made a Tejas introduction even harder.

But it has now passed the IOC and will be replacing Mig 21s soon.

COngrats INdia for this achievement. Just a select few countries in the world have an indigenous launch vehicle/capability.
I can see from the comments here that some Pakistanis are not very happy seeing INDIA achieve such a feat. You people should instead use this as a lesson on how to improve your own country and set up the necessary foundations to one day hace a local launch vehicle. It will take time and resources but overall it will be worth it. No country started off from the top, they all started with little crude launches which other more advance countries were even laughing at them, but with time they improve upon this and are now able to compete with the best.
Jealousy/anger wont help anybody or a country. Hard work, perseverance abd dedication will. In this regard, I have noticed that some Pakistanis and bengladeshi here are like some vietnamese/filipinos who will always find a way to undermine/critize China no matter what achievement China might have made, same with some turkish always trying to undermine/criticize iran achievement, Palestinians against israel, etc
I believe your country might have terroritorial issues/rivalry with another country, but that shouldn't act as a means of criticizing/underplaying everything that country does, you can have issues/be rivals but that shouldn't cloud your judgement or make you blind to what the other rival country has achieved. Jealousy/bitterness never made a country advance. So hopefully memebers here can try and be less biased and start making constructive comments.
On another note, indians shouldnt also overplay their own achievements, China is stillvway ahead of India in space and almost every other field. This shouldnt be an argument. But then again india doesnt always have to compare itself with china, it should work on its objectives and not engage in any space race or competition with anybody.

you are correct for everything but for the last bold part. :D

I wont get into that argument, dont have time for that, cuz I know it will derail this thread. But most people in the world will agree with me.

What was the reason for not following up after the Marut? Considering the german scientist who helped us, its seems our Political estbalishment once again FUKED US up yet again.

As usual, you are full of yourself。

I can't be bothered to correct you point by point。

But satellite imaginary? You mean imaging with your imported stuff onboard half-Indian made satellite?

Multiple satellites in one launch? It is cakewalk. Fortunately for you, China is not in the biz of launching tiny satellites in one launch, India is。:D

You have more than 5000 post to your account still you are ignorant and illogical. You have not learn anything. Your country is a master cut+Copy+Pest country still you are crying for foreign stuff on our satellite. We are world leader in remote sensing and earth observation field. Where is the question of imported stuff on board.

Parhephs your scientiests are not as ignorat as you that is why they say otherwise. Read this.

China still playing Catch Up in Satellite Imagery

China is atleast 2 generations behind India, Japan and france in satellite imagery.

DF-2 launch is 2013 end.

Its performance is what France had in 2002 with Spot 5, India with Cartosat -2 in 2005.

Assuming a countries spy satellites performance to be generation ahead of its civil remote sensing capability, Chinese Spy satellites even fall behind current Japanese, French or Indian Remote Sensing satellites.

And this is not India's claim.

What ever you can not do is a cake walk for you.

This were purely commercial launches. India had not done that to demonstrate our space might. We have already placed 10 satellite one launch. Had your country had enough guts, you would have offered launch at lower rate and win the contract.

Made in India military weapons and support systems

You are proved wrong.

If it was written Super power, i wouldn't have started this thread. All this talk of Super Power & we crossing china is a distant dream & BS.

When there are people like Lalu, Nitish, TRS chief, along with MEDIA who are hell bent on bringing India down whenever it starts to progress, i don't see us even near to that target.

we will have to make the moves like tortoise & no this is not a FICTION story where tortoise will win the race against rabbit b'coz rabbit is in no mood to take any REST.

Surpassing China is nothing!

Under Modi-ji, India will easily pass China and even America and become a superpower by 2020, or maybe 2025 at the latest.

India is only a few years behind China, and Modi-ji has the plans and support to overtake China quickly.

Our emergence as the super power is the decision of destiny. No body can change that. We are bullish and moving very fast as a nation in that direction. Everything is favorable. It is a matter of time before whole world accept that.

True. India is indeed a superpower. You can tell by this video

We do not need video. World's reputed firms like goldman sach and Knight Frank & Citi Private Bank.says that.

India to outpace China to be No.1 economy by 2050: Report - The Times of India

That prediction is several years old, when India was still at 8% growth and everyone expected it to increase to sustained double-digit growth.

But as you can see, India's growth went down to around 4% instead. That's the problem with predicting the future based on widely held assumptions, in this case the assumption was that India would surely achieve sustained double-digit growth, because China did it too.

I want to correct you. It is never 4%. Even we are expected to rise at 5.4 to 5.9% in 2013-14.

At that time china was developing at more than 9% which is down to 7%. Economist forecast Chinese economical disaster very soon. You must have read lots of articles on PDF itself, If those economists to believe, I foresee India becoming No 1 Economy much prior to those forecasted time of somewhere between 2043 to 2050.

Apparently You cannot talk about resolution without talking about swath.

I learn that every time India makes a "Best in the world" claim you need to check the details.

What ever you can not do is a cake walk for you.

Why launch small satellite when you can provide

VRSS-1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The satellite was built after a contract between Venezuela and China was signed in Caracas on 26 May 2011, and follows from their previous collaboration on VENESAT-1. The contract, worth $144.8 million USD, included $67.8 million for the satellite, $22m for the launch, $16m for the ground station in Venezuela and $22m for software. The main contractor is China Great Wall Industry Corporation and the satellite is based on the CAST 2000 bus developed by the China Academy of Space Technology.[2][4] One source posits that VRSS-1 is based upon the Chinese Yaogan-2 reconnaissance satellite.[5]

He he he. Even the Pentagon lease Chinese satellite.
Pentagon Continues Use of China Satellite in New Lease - Bloomberg

The use of China’s Apstar-7 satellite will be extended under a $10.7 million lease
