What's new

India, Iran and Oman go under sea to build pipelines, change geopolitics

Just awesome...our next step towards energy security and along with strategic relationship with Mid-East countries...by the way, feasibility study shows project will cost 4-5 billion dollar.

an offtopic point----

I heard Iran just cancelled $500 Billion loan to IP pipeline.didn't know that Iran offered such a large amount of money for that pipeline.

Had to be USD 500 million. ;)

This is how nations secure their interests unlike us where everything else matters but Pakistan :tsk:

new Irani Government exploring new consumer for Iran gas but remember the major reason of failure for Iran Pakistan Gas pipeline the Iran's demand of higher price was.
No it was your failure,Pakistan didnt have funds to build the pipeline. If Iran asked higher price then why you agreed on it in the first place??

That is a good point. It should be mutually beneficial deal on fair terms and stable pricing that don't result in huge spikes and downfalls every day.

Gas is not a fungible commodity and is not easily and cheaply transported across long distances so the price variation across the world is enormous unlike oil. The good thing is that the price has come down recently after the Share discoveries in the USA.

Best part is that they are planning "Under Sea Corridor" not just a pipeline... So, in future we may see a number of pipelines providing us the Fuel we need. Great Development i must say. All we need is decisive leadership in Delhi.

main reason was completion of five years period then than ruling party and they planned to use this project in election campaign as their great success and they signed on this project on very high price of irani demands.

Remamber Oman is the Investor and Iran is seller Only India is needy buyer
the farmoula will be
Omani Gas Pipe line rent + Irani Gas Pirce + maintenance of pipeline = price of gas ???

Ever heard about the word "feasibility studies"??
These studies are conducted to know that the project is feasible or not.So dont worry about the price.

Thats what you think, reality is ofcourse different.

So in short it was Pakistan's fault but in above post you said that it was Iran's fault.Atleast stick to one point of view.

(1) Feasibility is a paper work and reality will starts than iran will demand pushpul price of gas ?
(2) Big Difference between Congress and BJP policies, yous will see during election campaign.
(3) yes fault was of the then ruling party,
the one side of picture is Oman, Iran, India pipe line and lot of cheeper gas !!!
dont think the irani's are very sticky on their price demands.

Price is decide before the project and not after its completion.

It has nothing to do with the gov. ,Strategic investments or issues are not affected by chang of Gov.,Army does not control gov. policies either,Private companies will build the pipeline so there is less chance of corruption and delays also.

Biggest fallacy in your argument.

One Example for your R&D

" ISLAMABAD President Zardari will make a special request to his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to lower the demanded price of gas from the $7.6billion Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) pipeline project when he will visit Tehran on March 10, sources told Dawn.

The Iranian authorities have given a March 19 deadline to Pakistan to agree to price of gas. Iran has been demanding 78 per cent of the international crude oil price, which is considered too expensive to be accepted by Pakistan."

Why you are quoting that part of my post??
And what it has to do with what i said??

The thing is that gas in not as easy to trade as oil and the buyers and sellers have a mutual need.

The markets need to be near the suppliers and this is a perfect scenario.

The gas price is nowhere in the world linked to oil price for these reasons. It has to be to mutual advantage and benefit and that is the only way to make it work.

I think, the reason to charge higher price was due to the fact that Iran was financing majority of the project.
