India important nation, can keep nuke weapon: Dalai Lama

Why is this monk/joker always making stupid/clueless political remarks?
All genuine religious leaders should keep away from politics. Politics should NEVER be mixed with religion, else it becomes a deadly combination. Look no further than the middle east for prove. Since leaders use religious for their personal political benefits.

This monk is even more of a bigger joke than I thought. Lool

I respect his holiness but this surely was a stupid comment by him & agreed Politics & religion make a deadly combination

. .
Lol he could have just avoided or say he is not qualify to make remarks about such delicate matters, instead of making an even bigger joke of himself. Lool not like he isn't already. Once a revered religious leader start getting into politics, he losses any little credibility he once had, doesn't matter whether he is Muslim, Buddhist, Hindus , Christian or whatever, don't give a shit, stick with your religion and avoid dirty politics by all means, well that's if he is a GENUINE religious leader. He has made similar political remarks in the past, which he shouldn't have. You can have your own personal opinion as a 'holy' religious , but don't start publicising them, . if you want to do so, then just be a politician and join politics altogether. :enjoy:

Maybe he is a politician all along disguising as a religious leader. As a political leader, he sounds like he would do well running for office as he can talk from both sides of his mouth still the same time. He should run for office in India.

.
What? Sounds yet another "fake Buddhist" thing to say, basically trying to curry favour with the Indian establishment.

Clearly the Dalai Lama is ignoring basic teachings in Buddhism

Time for him to go and look up "Right Livelihood."

Playing to the gallery is not something the Dalai Lama should be doing.
He is a leader of his people and has the right to say ,such things.
Just like the pope asks other nations to be secular and issues political statements from Time to time.
He and his people lost their nation because his nation was not pragmatic and was relying on invaders ahimsa (non-violence ) principle.
Fighting for your right is not against Ahimsa.

I said it here already several times to other Muslim/middle eastern members on here. Religion should ALWAYS be separated from politics. NEVER mixed the two together. Else you are I'm for a troublesome ride.

Now, this dalai lama , if he wants to make such remarks/statement I don't mind, but he should renounce his Buddhist leader figure and join politics or become and MP/political activist. That will better serve his cause then and he can speak freely about what he thinks without any issue. But since he is still his so called 'holiness' , he should stick with his Buddhist religious stuffs and avoid getting into Dirty politics (yes politics is always a dirty business, nobody is saint once in it.lol).

Moreover, this his 'holiness ' stuff which people keep calling the dalai lama is getting annoying for me. Why will human beings regard other human beings as his holiness? This habit of venerating religious leaders is getting annoying to be honest. All human beings are sinners just like the bubble says(I'm sure the Quran says the same), so nobody can be considered to be holy at all,be it the Pope, Dalai lama, Mullahs, Imams, and even Mohammad etc. They can be men of GOD ,but not his 'holiness' and they shouldn't be revered and worshipped like I have seen many Christians, Buddhists, Muslims doing. That's wrong . Only God(or Allah of you want) is holy and should be revered and worshipped. NO HUMAN BEING IS HOLY.:agree: They should be respected/hunoured not worshipped, else its like brainwashing. Lol My 2 Cents.

Hmmmmm.....think i should stop here before members don't jump on me ands start making personal attacks and quoting verses in the bible, Quran, and Buddhist scriptures.:D:P

Why should religion be separated from politics? just because Abrahamic religions have learned bitter lessons doesn't mean all Dharmic faiths have to do the same, we were fine all along with Religion and Politics, our religious figures know when to talk and when to Intervene, not overtly intervene as Abrahamic faith leaders.
You need to separate Religion from politics in West, Not us in the East.

He is the Ruler of Tibet and the Spiritual leader of Tibetan Nation,Tibet is a buddhist nation,He has the right to say what he feels, for the welfare of his people as leader of his nation, he is entitled to have opinions on Politics and Religion as people follow his advice.

OK. I respect your views. Since I know when someone is a firm believer in a religious leader or hold a certain point of view about his religion, there is nothing much a mortal can do to change his mind. Lol. Can see you are as avid follower/worshiper of his 'holiness' Dalai lama. Keep up the faith.:enjoy:

Once you mix religion with politics, politics doesn't become holy but religion becomes dirty. In the East, there used to be a separation of religion and politics but today some nations in the East have started following Middle East example which is wrong. Buddhism is supposed to be a philosophy that one uses to improve his/her own life not an ideology that you should commit to in your entire life and that's what makes it unique. What people like Dalai Lama doing is destroying the uniqueness. What's ironic is that what he does directly go against his own teachings.

Yes we are a mature responsible country.
But nuke weapons are always evil.We aree keeping it because we dont have any choice or we enforced by circumstances to do it..Thats all.
His Excellency should stay away from such comments .

Whatever he does is for the benefit of his people and his Nation and nobody should question him about it,If you cannot tolerate his opinion and ideas, then i don't know what kind of Buddhism you guys follow, since Buddhism is all about tolerating differences and Ahimsa.
A simple statement from him has made many people butthurt, why can't he talk?it's his right when the Pope openly makes political statements every time.
Once again, what kind of buddhism do you follow when you cannot tolerate anothers opinion?

He gave his opinion to a question asked by a reporter on that subject, he knows without Nuke weapons India would have been blackmailed by nations like China,Pakistan and USA.
USA sent task force 74 during 1971 India-Pakistan war to Nuke India,if USSR didn't back us up with its fleet, they wouldn't even have blinked an eye and nuked India outright.
Pakistan attacked us 4 times, why don't they attack us now because of Nukes, the same reason China pitches tents with tent regiment only to go back to it's old position instead of demanding we give up the land like 1962.
For that sole reason we keep Nukes, Nobody is your friend, The world only respects the Strong not the weak.
Speak Softly, and carry a Big stick!
His Holiness Dalai Lama understands that, he is pragmatic leader and thus said his opinion.
A spiritual leader should be pragmatic about Real World too, not dwell in some other world dishing out sermons on philosophy and spirituality which will not work if you are Dead in the first place.

All around the world many Religious leaders seldom speak about politics and express their opinions, His Holiness Dalai Lama being the Leader and Spiritual guide of Tibetan people have every right to express his opinions.

Always thought mainstream Buddhists were peace loving people. After Burma and now this...... I think I better update my assumptions.

Anyone can question anyone. That's fundamental for a logical way of thinking. Otherwise you are on the way to become a blind believer. Not so different from the jihadi nutters. No one is butthurt. The problem here is that if he considers being a respectable person he should keep himself out of politics. By making political statement he just shows that he has nothing different to offer.

Well that is your opinion, but not what tibetans think of him, To them he is a leader and a spiritual guide, for you He should only stick to Spirituality and not make political statements.
He doesn't consider himself respectable person, others around him especially Tibetans consider him as such. There is a huge difference.

Not all Tibetans I think. I met a Tibetan once and she told me that she doesn't have a high respect towards Dalai Lama. And mind you, what Tibet had earlier was a form of theocracy. You just haven't seen the dark side of it. Monks had absolute authority and theu were very corrupt. I saw this one video in which the monks were beating the people with a stick in some gathering.

I met Tibetans in a Nightclub in China, who were there for a trip in the Mainland,They were modern, but when i told them i was from India they were very happy and asked me all about Dalai Lama and Tibetans in India.
So, one two Tibetans cannot change the perception,Go to Dharamshala to know about him yourself.
So Buddhist Theocracy is bad? As far as i know they don't go around killing people of other religions because they aren't Buddhist. So in my book they are quite good.
