What's new

India has requested for six MQ-9 drones from the US at the cost of $600 million.

There is no proper breakdown available for the deal so I can’t tell anything, and the other stuff make it expensive too, maybe Indian armed forces buying huge amount of weapons for the MQ-9.

That sounds naive, every weapons purchase India makes is far far above what the average cost is.

The US can be flexible in their deals and has been known to throw in freebies or huge discounts towards Pakistan and other allies if it gets a deal finalised, so the fact that you are paying this much means that the USA doesnt care about this holy "QUAD" and is milking India during its panic buying phase; and that there are huge amounts of kickbacks or corruption present.

no need for 6 drones...Indian willfight to the last Quad

Payload: 3,750 pounds (1,701 kilograms)
Speed: cruise speed around 230 mph (200 knots)
Range: 1,150 miles (1,000 nautical miles)
Ceiling: Up to 50,000 feet (15,240 meters)
Armament: combination of AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, GBU-12 Paveway II and GBU-38 Joint Direct Attack Munitions
Crew (remote): two (pilot and sensor operator)
Unit cost: $64.2 million

The most important factors. The Q is why have such expensive drones, which could easily be shot down by your enemies. 230 mph speed not exactly lightening speed. They can easily be shot down by both China and Pakistan. Neither their ceiling is particularly high enough to go undetected by the enemies.

They were used against Pakistan by USA because Pakistanis could not take the risk of shot down USA drone, for its other implications.

No such compulsions
when Indians drones cross the LOC or border with Pakistan.
They would be shot down very quickly. Mark my words, a very bad decision by India. It wouldn't be able to use it against China or Pakistan, without risking the retaliation, including shooting down of the drones.

Usually all defence purchases by MoD include weapons, spares, maintenance & service contracts

Still it is very expensive, has the news been confirmed by Indian media ??

Where is your 4 fingers?
With us only🤷🏻‍♂️.

Drones showed their capabilities in Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.

Because you had a role to play in Afghanistan, that’s why they restricted the F-16 usage of pakistan to only counter insurgency ops, they do pose terms and conditions for everything, plus only navy is interested in MQ-9 Reaper’s sea guardian version.

6 Drones might suffice for Ladakh issue only, iff the issue flares up. However India would need dozens of drones to tackle Pakistan and China together. Reaper indeed is a formidable drone.

6 drones will hardly give you one on the air 24/7.

1 needs to be on station, 1 needs to be being prepared to replace it, 1-2 needed for training, then some will be being maintained

Maybe we forgot to read the F-16 usage small print on 27th Feb......

6 Drones will be delivered on urgent basis and rest 24 will delivered in next 2 -3 years.

In addition India and US will signing BECA on 26th Oct. That will allow India to use US sattelites as well military grade GPS signal for targeting data.

That’s why we are buying 100 Predator-C Avenger Drones from USA after MQ-9 Reaper Predator-B to form the backbone fleet of IAF’s UCAV fleet complementing which will be our own AURA/Ghatak UCAV with HAL Unmanned Wingman concept And Rustom-II.

When something disposable suddenly become your most valued weapons. Then which elements that Indian will gladly to sacrifice in battle? the expensive UAV or their Mig-21 + pilots? Because I'm sure those Mig-21 + pilots are cheaper than these 6 luxury drones.

Pilots are the most expensive assets of their respective airforces.

I know, you violated the Agreement with United States for that.
