ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday reiterated that the Indian government had provided no evidence of the involvement of elements from Pakistan in the Mumbai attacks.

Earlier, an Indian envoy said Islamabad had sufficient evidence against Pakistan based groups of involvement in the terror attacks.

‘The Government of Pakistan has so far not received any information or evidence relating to the Mumbai incident from the Government of India,’ Foreign Office Spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said.

Earlier Acting Indian High Commissioner, Manpreet Vohra, told journalists that ‘There is a lot of evidence with the Pakistani government and other countries on not just the Mumbai incident. Everyone knows and has evidence about the activities of terrorist groups in Pakistan.’

Pakistan and India have been locked in the debate for weeks now with India firm on its stance that Pakistan knows it all, while Pakistan insisting no information had been provided to it.

Vohra remarked that Pakistan had many international obligations under the UN Security Council resolution.

He rejected the impression that war between the two neighbours was imminent. India is committed to resolve all disputes with Pakistan and still wishes to continue talks for regional peace, he said.

 Sort of parallels the debate on this thread.

Those camps were designed to wage a proxy war against Indian security forces in Kashmir, nor for terrorism. The US, India and Pakistan all engaged in these types of proxy wars during various times in their history, so to label them 'terrorists' is self-serving

Oh, then I cannot argue with you. If you think that you can simply let..what..."Freedom Fighter" camps flourish and that they'll behave like well-trained dogs who won't poop on the sofa, then you guys are deluding yourselves.

I disagree that all of those people should be arrested, since they served a role that was acceptable in even the US's eyes (and is possibly still considered acceptable via support for Jundulla in Iran). However, any of these individuals who were involved in a blatant terrorist attack such as the one in Mumbai should be arrested and tried, and their assets seized.

The only solution to the issue is the COMPLETE CESSATION of support to all kinds of "non-state" armed groups.

Trying Kasab isn't going to get us anywhere near the root of the problem - extremist Islam and Jehadi mindset flourishing in these "proxy-war/freedom fighter" camps.

And that's what the world is demanding - a change of mindset in Pakistan. Please. Don't sink your own ship and take everyone else down with you.

Pakistan does not exist to implement India's priorities. Circumventing our laws and our constitution on India's say so is not acceptable. Since now we have political parties controlling the system, politics will influence all attempts to change the system.

Of course its not. Its only acceptable if USA gives billions of $$$.

Your speculation of why the GoP refused is just that - speculation. I believe it was because of domestic pressure, and the GoP did not want to be seen as accepting any diktat.

Whether the Brits are allowed access behind the scenes is another matter.

It wasn't a diktat it was a request - and it was not controversial/illegal in any way.

Sure its speculation, but there isn't a better explanation than that.

thats retarded!!
the indian government didnt find any evidence so their gonna write a letter???
so lame :disagree:

Why it is retarded?. You are not understanding. Lets assume you came to India without a VISA and you were apprehended by Indian police, what will you do?. who will you ask for help?. It will be Pakistan embassy that will have to help you, otherwise you are doomed. You have to write a letter to Pakistan embassy with details of your background so that they can cross check and then help you further.

In the same way, Kasab wrote to pakistan embassy. Now GoP will do an enquiry and see if he is a Pakistani or not based on the information provided in the letter.

Got it?

It is not for you to decide my dear unfortunate friend.

lmao as far as im concerned the whole pakistan [except idiot shariff] agrees with me
i mean we would change our stand if we were shown any evidence but since we're dealing with india we know thats not gonna happen :disagree:

I do not think we should allow them to flourish, I have indicated several times that I do not think Pakistan should pursue support for the violent Freedom struggle in kashmir.

However I also do not think that the people indoctrinated in fighting Indian SF's should be arrested and jailed, since the State specifically trained them and encouraged them to do so, as did the US and India in their respective proxy theatres. I also do not think it is possible for the government to act immediately against these camps without appearing as a sellout and facing a backlash from these groups, especially with the war in FATA. The process of re-indoctrination will be a long one.

What the GoP can do is what it has done for the last five or six year - end all material support for these groups and end all support in crossing the LoC. As some of the LeT leadership themselves admitted, those moves from the GoP devastated their operations and capability.

In the meantime, it should act against any such groups if the engage in acts such as Mumbai, but to do so requires that India cooperate transparently. Notice that even the LeT refused to accept responsibility for the attack. Thsi indicates that they know such attacks will not gain support amongst Pakistanis, and will degrade support for the organization, possibly even amongst their own less extreme cadres.

Going through the system in a transparent manner allows for the organization to be discredited publicly and dismantled legally with little outcry.

And when was that popular in Pakistan? As I said, Musharraf lost because of that, and this government will as well if things continue in this manner till election day.

I'll reiterate, Pakistan does not exist to implement India's priorities. Circumventing our laws and our constitution on India's say so is not acceptable.

It was controversial in the atmosphere that exists, and how the public views the situation. Note that PM Gilani was almost bragging about it when he stated that PM Gordon asked, and he refused.

This government has lost a lot of credibility and support domestically on the air strikes issue, it will seek to bolster its image wherever it can.

Dude the entire Indian approach to this Mumbai thing is retarded. Retarded leaders is the only explanation I can come up with for insisting that Pakistan do something within its border just at Indias behest. We are sorry you have lost 172 lives, but even if you lost 172,000,000 lives, we can't do anything within our borders. If someone from our border did something and you SAY you have proof you should give it.

If you say you have Kasab's confession and lie detector test results, hand it over. Let us know which camp he trained in Pak, who was his inspirational guru, who taught how to handle a gun, did he confess to carrying out other missions, what sort of a petty criminal was he, all that info needs to be given to Pak and we'll follow each and every lead, re-confirm, make arrests, put people to jail, or free them from jail if it is so founded.

Why are those retards giving us a letter saying he is a Pakistani? Again the entire focus is to somehow keep repeating Pakistani is there, no focus in catching the criminals.

Cross posting comments from the United Nation's Taliban al Qaeda Sanctions Committee chief, Richard Barrett, that India has taken umbrage over:

"It's very difficult for any state to implement them completely but we're of course satisfied that the Pakistani government is working to try to ensure full compliance," Barrett had said.

"I found in all my dealings with officials in Pakistan, whether it's the government, elected offcials, ministries or the intelligence services or the Army and we deal with all of those bodies, I found very good atmosphere of cooperation between them as well as with us: he said.

He had also said that it is for the United Nations Security Council to decide if Pakistan is acting against Jamaatud-Dawa or not.

"The things that may look like non-compliance may not be non-compliance or may be something that happened despite the best efforts of the government and it's up to the Security Council to decide that," he added.

LOL@lie detector test.

The Indians are turning this into a Bollywood comedy with their evidence gathering.

I wonder how the truth serum worked. I prefer Sodium Pentathol myself. Not long lasting, but effective

first off all anyone can write the letter they just want to accuse Pakistan is a terrorist state they are trying so hard everything.....

The idea of united nations security council to decide whether pakistan is doing enough against the rogue elements seems very sound and logical.i think both parties should adopt this idea.it gives both parties better chances to express their concerns on a world stage, since the problem is global and affects all the people round the world

Pakistan government on Monday night said it has received a letter written by Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone gunman captured for the Mumbai attacks, and was examining its contents.

The Foreign Office in Islamabad said the letter in which Iman sought legal assistance and a meeting with Pakistani officials was forwarded to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi by the Indian Government.

"This evening the Indian Government has forwarded to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi a letter from one 'Mohammad Ajmal Mohammad Ameer Qasab' who claims to be a Pakistani," said a statement from Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq.

"He (Iman) has sought assistance of a lawyer and a meeting with the Pakistan High Commission. The contents of the letter are being examined," the statement added.

Sadiq told state-run APP news agency that India's External Affairs Ministry had handed over the letter.

In New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry officials summoned Pakistan's Acting High Commissioner Afrasiab and handed over the letter to him.

Amir Kasab, the father of Iman, has acknowledged to a Pakistani newspaper that the gunman whose pictures were beamed around the world by the media was his son.

Residents of Faridkot, Iman's village in Punjab province, have told the media that he last visited his home about six months ago, when he had told his mother he was going away for jehad.

However, the Pakistan government has distanced itself from these revelations, with President Asif Ali Zardari saying recently that there was no conclusive proof that the terrorists involved in the Mumbai attacks were Pakistanis.

India has blamed Pakistan-based elements, including the Lashker-e-Taiba, for the attacks that killed over 180 people. It has asked Pakistan to take action against such elements and to deliver on its commitment to not allow its territory to be used for terrorist activities

let me ask u something
when have terrorists ever written letters or did legal work to resolve something?
NEVER
that is why they are terrorists!!!!!
this is the stupidest piece of krap i have ever heard of

I think india wants Zardari to issue orders to handover few Pakistanis in response to the subject letter.
It seems, mike mullen and party have come to solve the big problem who should be handed over.
I remember india started their demand with handing over serving ISI cheif and which was reluctantly declined later by govt. of Pakistan.
Who knows a deal may be closed over ex-ISI cheif.
