India falling apart - Citizenship Amendment Bill: India's West Bengal hit by protests

Some people say protest is a sign of democracy.

Because democracy ensures people a right to protest against tyrannical and any wrongdoing by the government.

Protest on everywhere is a sign of healthy democracy and it's working very well.

While other people say protest is a sign that democracy is failing.

Because if democracy is working, no one is going to protest, because everyone is being listened and satisfied.

And that is the real sign of healthy and working democracy.

Basically, India democracy is succesful or not?

Really? I'm curious to know how it is an attack on our constitution?

As if you don't know. :hitwall:

There was never a bill passed in the Indian parliament which discriminated against one single religion/community on religious lines.

Even if we agree that Muslim's are not persecuted in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh (which is also not factually correct 100%), why doesn't the government utter a single word about the Rohingya's why;

Aren't they minority of their country ??
Aren't they persecuted ??
Don't we have over 40000 of those refugees ??
Don't they require the same compassion, humane treatment ??

Forget, them why doesn't they say a word about the minority Sri-Lankan Tamils. They include all including Hindu, Christian as well as few Muslims. Why are they some outcasts or lesser refugees ??

There is no barometer to measure whether it's success or failure. But one thing is for sure, our democracy is very well working like how the uni-party setup works for the Chinese. Of-course with all it's pros and cons. :)

You still haven't answered one simple question, what so discriminatory about giving citizenship to minorities from these proclaimed religious nations? What laws it violated? How it affects secular fabric? Or according to you, is secularism is decided by who is unhappy with the law?

It's not our fault that we have surrounded by countries with state religion. Rohingya and Tamil are ethnic issues if we start granting citizenship like that, might as well as give citizenship to everyone.

I think he already answered..

Rohingyas are also persecuted minority
Tamils consist of Christians, Hindu and Muslims

But you guys will only give refuge to anyone other than Muslims..

This is what I have understood.. Although I don't know if any persecuted Muslims really want to go to India in the current circumstances where they will be lynched to death one day.. If some really want to, then they will realize their mistake very soon.

Article 14 of the Constitution of India provides for equality before the law or equal protection of the laws within the territory of India. It states:

"The State shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India.

Now please go ahead and amend Article 14 so as to accommodate the fancies of the ruling party.

Article 14 of the Constitution of India provides for equality before the law or equal protection of the laws within the territory of India. It states:
Please read article 14 again and again, till you understand every line of it. Don't make a joke of yourself.

Every human in India are not treated equal. He/She sure has right to live, and other common laws that applies here. A foreigner has no equality with a citizen of India, or other foreigners when it comes to gaining citizenship.

Your turn to answer these violation of article 14 (according to you). Please don't deflect.
1. A Chinese man cannot get citizenship but a Tibetan can. Nobody flinched. Religious bias?

2. A foreigner cannot get OCI card, if one of their grant parents are from SL, Pak, BD, NP, BH. Nobody cared. Ethnic bias?

I know these are perfectly legal and is depended on foreign policy of India, but just to give a perspective. And how stupid it is to quote something like Article 14 which applies exclusively for Indians and not foreigners or special category citizens in this matter.

Current form of Democracy is a failed syst... that is based on the desires of its people AS a group...
Therefore one way or another a Democracy is never successful... as it doesn't hold against "Evolution".

India Democracy is neither successful nor a failure... but it's working as intended.

He is confused with citizenship laws and refugee status.

Ronhingyas are an ethnic minority in Myanmar. Similar to the Tamils. Rohingyas also include Hindus who are also avoided. And India has not promised anyone we would accept every prosecuted groups from our neighborhood.

If given chance Rohingya Muslims would flood North Eastern states, but the police is keeping them off to Bangladesh. The explanation for your confusion can be, perhaps nearly 200 million Muslims are not prosecuted in India as you think.

I presume you didn't read that line again and again. It doesn't say it is applicable to Indian citizens alone. Rather it says any person. And a person is a person no matter what his nationality is as long as he is within the territory of India, he enjoy the rights as per Article-14.

But yes, it doesn't touch the case of citizenship since it's a subject of central government. But whoever with an IOTA of knowledge can see and understand that this bill clearly say's in black and white. All refugees except MUSLIMS become Indian citizen. And when combined with NCR (which is the whole purpose for this exercise) it will have devastating affects.

And after hearing the reassurance from our Home Minister that Muslims of India need not worry. It reminds me of the following proverb about Amit Shah (the Axe).

The law doesn't say everyone except Muslims become Indian citizens. Is it coming from whatsapp news agency?

Any Muslim who wants to obtain Indian citizenship will not have trouble doing so provided he follows the procedure. Can you deny that?
This only matters with a handful of minorities from Islamic republics in South Asia who make up the majority of refugees in India are granted citizenship.

Again there is precedence for it. Now it is a problem for you guys (among others) because the ones getting citizenship are Hindus. I can understand your intolerance.

I read it just fine, you didn't read what I said. Article 14 is not about granting citizenship, and Article 14 do not apply to who gets citizenship. Hence every foreigner is not equally eligible for citizenship.

oh yeah. I saw that tweet from that wife killer Sashi Taroor.

Can you tell me, how CAB will affect Indian Muslims? What's your problem?

Indians are realizing problems slowly and are waking up.some of them now openly opposing government strategies.it is still their internal matter but I recommend indians to equally treat every citizen.they say that there is democracy.you can't pass stupid bills in democracy.

It is your internal matter.you should do something quickly.i have seen videos everywhere.things aren't good in India.treat everyone equally.you people give us lectures about democracy and how democracy works.you should find a way to stop protests.vehicles on fire in india.these type of things portray your image bad.

It is not the result on paper that matter but the intention behind all these. For example look what a responsible MP had to say in the past.

It's can't be taken as a personal view since a lot of MLA's and MP's from BJP/NDA had propagated similar thoughts time and again. It's the mindset of the people who make the war cry "pehle kasai phir isai" which is an attack on the very fundamental fabric of our constitution.

And this is the mindset that is the reason for peace loving liberal Indian's to view such discriminatory legislation's to be viewed with suspicion, and rightly so. :(
