KARACHI – Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria on Saturday said, “There is a need for taking at least small positive steps to create the environment for major decisions on different counts,” he said during an interaction with members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

Moving towards this direction, India has taken a “baby” step by softening its visa policy for Pakistan’s senior citizen and the children under age of 12 years and issuing visas on the humanitarian ground in some particular cases.

To a question, he said normally it took 30 to 35 days to process an application by a Pakistani for an Indian visa. However, the Indian mission here tried its best to make the process easier.

When pointing out that even Pakistani businessmen were issued India visas at the 11th hour to attend or participate any trade event, Indian High Commissioner assured that in future they would get the visa in time.

Indian envoy said he firmly believed that the neighbouring countries must have good relations with each other. “We would encourage every positive effort towards peace,” he reaffirmed.

He said despite many issues/ hindrances, the bilateral trade last year figured dollars 2.2 billion. The fact is that the trade potential on both the sides was more than 30 billion dollars per year.

When his comments were sought on Indian stance on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he simply said his country’s position was very clear on CPEC for certain reasons. However, he added, it was good to establish connectivity in the region.

President KCCI Muffasar Atta Malik, Chairman, Businessmen Group in KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli, Senior Vice President Abdul Basit Haji Abdul Razzaq were also present.

Looks like Sino-Russian pressure is working on India. India have finally given up the opposition to BRI & CPEC.

Very good initiative and we should do more to allow Pakistan and its people to interact with India...In order to create a positive environment, India should start allowing people from sports, media and entertainment to move freely across the border..We need to create an environment where we welcome our friends across the border..

What the resident forum mouth breathers don't know is exports from Pakistan to India is ~300 million and India to Pakistan is ~1 Billion. This is by not even calculating the Dubai route through which it is significantly higher (3 to 5 times by some estimates).

India should give Kashmir to Pakistan to create positive environment for improving trade.

As reported by Pakistan, it imported 1.7 billion in 2017 (up from 1.6 billion in 2016) from India....and exported around 330 million (down from 350 million in 2016).

And yes it is often estimated that anywhere from 2 - 5+ billion dollar (of similarly one way trade favouring India) goes through UAE.

I don't know, why is it so hard for India to let go Kashmir Valley or part of it. Do it once and close this dispute for ever.

Give Kashmir and they’ll ask for Leah. Give that and they’ll ask for HP. Too bad we aren’t giving anything away and we don’t need to trade with pakistan. Their GDP per capita is 1600, not like they can buy much anyways.

From Pakistan to India: $14.36 billion in remittances over 3 years

At $4.9 billion, remittances from Paksitan to India were fourth largest and ranked 14th highest remittance bet...

"There is clearly an urgent need to improve bilateral remittance flow data worldwide, but in particular in the subcontinent. The way forward would be for the authorities to collect such data from money service businesses and banks and complement that with periodic household surveys involving migrant households," Ratha said.
Also, small remittances are overwhelmingly sent by migrants for genuine, day-to-day use by their families back home. "It is wrong to assume that remittances are associated with financial or other crime."

Ratha said data on remittances are incomplete in many countries, especially data on bilateral remittance flows.

"This is due to the fact that (a) remittances were ignored as small change until recently; (b) remittance flows are under-recorded due to the use of informal channels in many corridors, a response to high cost of sending money across countries; and (c) bilateral remittance flows are difficult to measure because a large part of recorded remittances are often attributed to originate from countries where large international correspondent banks have headquarters," he said.

For now only Kashmir is the ask. We can discuss others later.
