Noida Metro sets a new fast record

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday said it has launched a record 200 U-girders - which is equivalent to approximately 2.7km of elevated viaduct - on the Noida-Greater Noida Metro track in May. The track's first U-girder in December last year.

If trains roll by the end of 2017, as DMRC has targeted, Noida Metro will set a world record of being the first Metro line to be commissioned within two and a half years of launch, a senior official said.

"The typical length of U-girders is 27 metres and weighs around 160 tonnes. The main challenge of U girders is precision in casting as well as launching, which requires specialised cranes of 350/400 tonnes capacity to launch these U-girders," Dayal said.
