Re. Posts on Indian IT Vs. China, US, Canada, EU specially Germany, have a look at groud realities.
Only India has a mega local and often overlooked foreign IT eco-system. Giant eco -system. Local IT is often a feeder to the Global big boys.
Unlike Phillipines or Ghana, India also runs the world's largest IT and misc. Re. related stuff like outer space, defence and social welfare id programs. Mostly from scratch.
Eg. 100 smart cities program.
Like J&K, India's IT R&D sector has been mostly the D- Development.
Pardon me, but the need of the hr. is armies of hard working bug fixers and testers. Glorified clerks if you may. No need for high end engg., lco m mp n sclmń jg engineers. As an insider I believe this is were most of the innovation comes in. Prototyping -or reduction-to-practice. Namely- defining the classes of the objects re. C, C++, JAVA, ANDROID OO or low level machine programming. The thing with bug fixing and testing is that it's 100 % agnostic and comes with all kinds of online and phone support. Public universities, specially professors in the US and the West went out of their to put their stuff on the Internet and even giant mega Corp. 'S put out free software programs, tool's and patches thereof.
It's very hippie like, sharing and socialism like. The thing that helps Indians is their English language inheritance which makes it easier to be in IT for the average middle class Indian Joe.
So pulling everything together, a multi variant clutch of stuff happened and Indian IT ran away with it. Said Indian IT, including BPO, call centers, consulting, design, engg. , and even proper R&D now is a 100 pound gorilla. $ 110- 150 BI'll ion Vs. 1 $ is still Rs. 60.
History is history, the IT stage was set 3-5 yrs. ago and when local e-commerce took off, it went off the chats with Silicon Valley style valuations and even better Global funding.
In PPP terms India's IT play is already worth $ 300-900 Billion or even more re. input costs vs. output Vs. India's 1/2 done cement-saria-labour infra. deficit.
Long story short, nobody can touch Indian IT's pole position. No way. Not even close. Dubai Internet city, Malaysia multi-media Corridor, Russia, France, Germany, Brazil, UK, Nigeria have all tried in the last 15 yrs. And even succeed. But couldn't even scratch the surface of India's IT might. Some Indian minister stated
• IT is India's oil.
@ ~ $ 1 Trillion and zooming, sure is.
Even oil is not what it used to be re. Shale gas. And very few jobs in oil biz. Pumps work on their own, pipelines, tankers and refineries are hardly Labour intensive.
IT and BPO gives you millions of high to medium skilled jobs and most importantly keeps the heavily politicized urban youth busy and hungry for more opportunities.
Problem today with S. Asia, the Middle East, the Arab St, Latin America and to some extent the EU and US is disgruntled, unemployed youth. Semi literate and frustrated yet Global and materialistic; said youth cohort is, like I man's million man march or Egypt s Tahrir Square fiasco or even the rise of AAP in Delhi point to this massive energy, a population bomb if you will, whose ideas are not matched by the systems in their countries.
