India crosses 10GW solar deployment – MNRE

Lol...we are only competing with our energy needs!! We don't effing care about china!!
Only thing we want china to do is keep cost of the panels low!!
We are generating solar power at as low as 3rs per unit I.e 5 cents per kwh. How much does china sell it for?

You didn't answer my question: who are you? And what are you credentials to represent the entire nation of India?

latest rates are Rs 2.10 per unit- Also in a good development Haryana Govt have issued a directive which makes all commercial buildings in the state to have solar panels compulsorily-

I hope some company like Tata introduces solar power for homes on easy installments with govt subsidies. Instead of paying bijili ka bill, I would rather pay for generating my own power. Right now, for 3 KW, it's about the same as buying a mid-end motorcycle.

The more India installs solar panels, the more money the Chinese make.

Skewed logic

The more cars we drive the more money the Gulf states make selling oil .

What diff does it make who makes the money so long we get it rates we are comfortable with & generate renewable energy.

There is a problem with Batteries and their life cycle costs and waste management- If this is sorted out which I hope It will be in 5 years with new technology coming- the Urban areas will prefer solar due to high power rates-

we didn't get the manufacturing policy right on this. Maybe we got too stuck up with the WTO dispute to get the policy worked out.

Batteries can also be replaced with supercapcitors. So there's always room for improvement.

No, the govt does provide subsidies for home power, grid connected.

We need large companies entering this business in order to revolutionize the industry.

It's really hard to outpace Chinese economies of scales but import duties can encourage local investors. The cost is gradually decreasing and in the long run when countries will start depending on solar power local manufacturing will make a difference. There will be an endless buying cycle and it would become harder to break the cycle as the technology advances.

You cant levy import duties...it will be counter productive for our solar goals...we are not like developed countries trying to change their existing coal based power to solar....we are power shortage country we try meet the energy needs partly with solar!!
So import levies will not only disrupt our solar goals but also our total power gen goals!! If you want to promote local manufacturing give them incentives!!
And We don't have to out pace china!

I am not in favour of big solar plants. They look good but they have its own side affect on the environment. Some of the local environmental changes are local temperature pattern change towards higher temp, this has ripple effect on humidity of the area, which effects the cloud formations for the subsequent seasons which effects the areas around and far where the clouds should be travelling but are not due to less cloud formation after solar farms.
Also there are reports of birds getting fried mid area when flying above these farms due to intense heat and rays.
Apart from these, there are waste products of batteries, PV cells etc.
This technology is still far away from being perfect and requires more research.

You are right in the current scenarios but you are missing the point that renewable is the future and cost effective energy supply will govern the economic dynamics of the future world.

Could you please furnish your arguments with some references because as far as my knowledge goes, Solar P.V. is completely environment friendly technology at least in it's operation if not in production.

My comment is towards large scale solar farms which are spread across acres of lands thus increasing the sun radiation exposure area for the birds resulting them to fry.

But overall if you compare it with greenhouse gases emitted from coal and thermal powerplants it is way less.
