India cannot stay neutral towards Iran: Shimon Peres

Ancient India is not the same as the Republic of India ! At any rate presenting Ancient India as a geographically, politically or even culturally unifying single entity is historically erroneous irrespective of whether it comes across as being ludicrous to you or not for the brutal truth is that India for most of her life has been little more than a Subcontinent of different Kingdoms fighting it out with each other. The fact that the Republic of India shares its namesake with the Indian Subcontinent of ages past does not make it the inheritors of its History at the expense of all other country's in its vicinity that were born on the same day or near about the equally pseudo phenomena called the 'Republic of India' or at that time the 'Dominion of India'.

The oldest civilizations & those areas are associated with the people who inhabit these areas & their descendents call themselves Pakistanis not Indians.

They might call themselves Martians for all I care....but the history of the land stays in the history books - no one can change what was written thousands of years ago.

There is a difference between Ancient India and the modern India but does that take away the Indian culture from us? no it does not, my ancestors date a few centuries back - they were called Indians as we are called Indians now, but you have a new name to call yourselves which is different to what your ancestors were called or referred to.

History of the land lives in the people who inhabit those lands !

What Indian Culture ? The Baluch were called Baluch, the Pukhtoons were called Pukhtoons as were the Sindhis & the Punjabis, the Marahata has their own name & identity, as did the Bengalis & others !

But the English, the Portuguese, the Chinese, the Persians, the Romans, the barbarians did not come looking for the Baluch, Punjabis or Maratha's they set sail or marched to reach India.

Thats because the Indian Subcontinent or Ancient India isn't a 'figment' of our imagination its just that it doesn't equal to the Republic of India with all the ownership of its past vested in a country that was born on the 15th of August, 1947.

Ancient India = Pakistan + India + Sri Lanka + Bhutan + Bangladesh + (possibly) parts of Iran, Afghanistan, China & Myanmmar !

Somehow Indians seem to forget that !

Of course, I am not denying that the present day Pakistan, Bangladesh etc weren't part of India earlier.

No what you're doing is that you're painting the Indian referred to by Vasco Dagma as the same present day India minus the present day Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. when that isn't the case !

On what grounds should present day India have greater rights of lineage or ownership to the Ancient Civilizations of the Indian Subcontinent than say Bhutan ? A namesake that is not remotely reflective of the ground realities of what Ancient India was & what the Republic of India is ?

Because you all are associating yourselves with the ancient India, Indians still hold the ancient culture, the books, the languages, the habits that ancient India gave to us - we are the icons of the ancient India....you as a people share our history upto 1947.

Be rejoiceful that you get to chart your own path into the future with a foreign religion that is not synonymous with the region.

We rejoice in the fact that we come from an ancient culture, we cannot give up our ancestry or our religion.

The culture, books, languages & the habits of Ancient Indians are far removed from their comparatives in today's India; paganism & songs does not equate to equity with what the Ancient Indians did anymore than the Kalaash from up North in Pakistan claiming that they are the scions of Ancient Indian Civilizations just because they're still animists.

At any rate even a cursory look at any book on anthropology would tell us that cultures, languages, habits & even belief-systems are never....ever static but ever evolving. And any attempt to brand one as being more 'original' than the other is sheer irrationality because theres no such thing as an 'original' culture, language or belief-system. The Punjabis of today are far different from the Punjabis of a 100 years ago, with the Punjabis of a 100 years ago being far different than the Punjabis of a 1000 years ago & so on & so forth back to the first recorded history of the Punjabi Civilization which in turn was born out of a previous Civilization when there was no Punjab & no Punjabi to speak off; such is the case across the length & breadth of ethnic & linguistic groups.

Repartee? With ghosts? Are you thinking of the Vetaalpanchavingshati? But that is ancient, according to our young lion, and no longer part of our discourse.

Generally Indian population is neutral towards Iran, but a large segment of our population is Pro-Israeli and Pro-Jewish. So it's natural for Israel to have a leverage in Indian decision making.

But this present status-quo is desirable.

Indian population is pro-white. You have a love for Caucasians since 200 years of occupation by them has made India enjoy its colonial history. It's what makes an Indian an Indian.

Iran is a friend and important ally to India

We can maintain good relationship with Israel and also with Iran

Israel should not sell any more weapons to India. And India should forget about getting any more advance systems such as super green pine. Israel should regard any countries friendly to Iran as enemies. Lets face it, would you trust anyone who wants to be friends with the country that swear to wipe you off the face of the earth.

The fact is there was nothing called Pakistan those thousands of years back, Pakistan is a new entity, the real history is related to India not to the pseudo phenomena called Pakistan that was created by Jinnah in the 1940's.

As for Persian travellers to India check out this account

Both India and Pakistan are equally new entities. India only existed as a geographical expression prior to British domination.

There's only something called modern day Pakistan and nothing else beyond that.

As for India and most of the princely states - the whole region was under an influence and culture that was termed Indian - as the rest of the world that was divided by various entities, but the collective whole was called India. It's difficult to explain to someone who doesn't have a history which is not more than 65 years old. Persian and Indian traders and travelers have been traveling across for thousands of years.

So India is a geographical expression. Such as Europe or middle east.
