Oh! your NE also has a border with Burma? Not bad. But you cannot go there without first passing through BD or Burma. Is this not the reason you have asked Burma to grant the use of Sittwe? When the Chicken neck route is too long and too difficult even to build a workable road, how do you propose that central Indian goods can pass through that corridor to NE and then to Burma using a 1000km detour? Or, you just do not know the geography/map there? Be realistic with BD. India needs BD cooperation in the matter of connectivity with SE Asia, period.

Smugglers are criminals, all of them should be getting punished. You are claiming that BSf lets some smugglers do smuggling who pay bribes, and that is unfortunate if true since every smuggler in the Indo-BD border should be getting shot by BSF.

Just like how some corrupt policemen let thieves go if they bribe them, but doesnt change the fact that the thieves need to be punished.

How does it matter? It's still one dead "smuggler". Btw, smugglers should be your concern not ours since they seem to be smuggling into BD & not the other way around. It's BD which is not getting the revenue due to it. Maybe you too should celebrate when a "smuggler" gets his just deserts.

Indian smugglers do they sell phensidyl (factories are often located near border areas), alcoholic liquor , sugar, kashmiri shaal, rice, saree, electronic goods, Indian bike, you name it, almost every product. The safe points are comilla, burimari, dinajpur , some part in Noakhali etc.....

This is also a profession for many people on both sides of the border. If it stops totally , the biggest sufferer will be India. We are the importer, the consumer market. If it comes through legal channel, cost will be too high and not many people will be interested then. Your people knows this, that's why they are taking a loooooong time to stop this. Like my fellow country men said, BSF shoots only when they don't get bakshish, like mafia. Did you know that it is cheaper to import electronic good from Singapore and Malaysia than getting them from India?? I will really dare India to put a stop to this totally.
