India-Bangladesh connectivity inevitable: Khaleda

Captain's version is true. Have you ever read a news when BSF killed smugglers while entering India? BSF allow them to cross and wait for them to come back, pay their Bakshish and re-enter BD. When some smugglers try to sneak through without paying bribes, BSF become good border policeman and shoot at the smugglers. An action like this should not be a cause of celebration by the Indians, but it is.

No..you know why ? Because our media do not waste time in posting news about killing smugglers and the only source for info is BD news sources, of which we know the standard and bias.

And anyway smugglers will be shot. If you want to stop it, stop sending smugglers. As simple as that. MY God and you guys have the chutzpah to justify smuggling and demand that smugglers should not be shot. facepalm.

.
Oh! your NE also has a border with Burma? Not bad. But you cannot go there without first passing through BD or Burma.

lol you mad bro ?

who said the chicken neck is too long or too difficult ? There are railways and national highways already passing through it. Its not we cant go there if your highness wont allow us. We are just exploiting you for cheaper access. Take it that way.

It is Bangladesh who is more desperate to escape from India and looking for alternate route via Myanmar. If you read Bangladeshi media about proposed trans-Asian Highway or Trans-Asian Railways(both of them passes through North-East India), Bangladeshis media proposed they must look for alternate route through Myanmar avoiding any Indian territory.:lol:

.
Gotta admit right now we need Bangladesh more they need us. We need to connect to east Asia and for that we need to pass through BD. A good move by both nations

Please tell me you are joking. When was the last time you looked at the map of India ?There are 4 Indian states that have a border with Myanmar. All we need to do is build a 6 or 8 lane highway through the chicken's neck , all the way to mizoram. It is not even close to an impossible task , but will be expensive though. If we can build railway lines in Kashmir , and through the western ghats , then this is definitely possible. The benefits will be profound.
1- We don't have to beg a small country like Bangladesh for transit
2- Massive economic development in areas close to the freeway. Check out any major expressway in India , private developers have transformed the land around that region.
3- No paying tariffs for transit.
4 - Economic development in north eastern states.

Besides , Bangladesh is not US or Canada, where there are miles of open freeway for large vehicles. The road conditions in Bangladesh are nothing short of pathetic , and it will be more beneficial for vehicles to pass through this freeway ( If it is ever built , of course)

Yes , Bangladesh is an extremely important country for India. It's development will decide how many more illegal Bangladeshis will intrude into India.

Before talking about development about india and illegal migration bull sh!t... go try to develop your poor and hungry, malnourished people. Ohhh by the way try to make some toilet as 51% of your people do open defection. Then come here to lecture about development and illegal migration.

.
Somebody has raised good points regarding smugglers.

I am combining posts,

Somebody said e 5 billion usd dollars of material including cattle is smuggled into Bangladesh.

Suppose it was through official route and minimum surcharge for import 10%, it would be 0.5 billion USD cash. Then the smugglers are damaging Bangladesh economy very badly and they should thrown into jail by BGB.

LOL , what are you talking about Bangladeshi? For 90% of your population , a toilet is their rice or jute field. It's amazing I would say , free fertilizer since your farmers can't afford industrial fertilizers anyway. By the time Bangladesh's GDP per capita matches that of India , Papua new Guinea , in the pacific ocean , populated by pigmy tribes , would be a world Superpower.

.
Thats why India seeks transit facility in Bangladesh and FCI to transport grains within India via Bangladesh (we discuss about this thread in PDF) :P

Jute and Paddy field??? Recent UNISEF data of 2012 has indicated that Bangladesh has 81% improved and shared toilet where as for India it is only 43% where 51% do open defection and more then 70% of the village is without any toilet. In Bangladesh only 4% open defection happen. Have some shame on yourself. Your country has more poverty, hunger and malnourishment as well.

India is a extremely poor country and they cant afford to pay transit fee. I dont think BD should allow such free ride to Indians.

Yes you are right... but the cow smugglers as we need beef. Bangladesh has raised objection for all other smuggling for a long time. But that is the life line of the poor of the border region. Even many Indian MLA are involved in it. Without smuggling many Indian goods will loose its competitive edge. Thats why they hire some extreme poor people from both side of the border to do the smuggling. Many phensidyl factory have been set up across the border with clear intention of smuggling them to Bangladesh. Same has been done by Myanmar as well. They also smuggle 500 million worth of drugs to Bangladesh.

Did you just pull the UNICEF data out of your ***? Yeah , not surprising , some while ago , you posted some weird data proving that Bangladesh's per capita GDP is higher than that of India

Bangladesh is a begger country living on Indian aid. We can afford your entire country , let alone pay for transit. As for transit , it can't happen anyway because your country can't afford to build a highway. The roads in Indian slum areas are better than the average roads in Bangladesh.

Lol... not just pulled the data instead it was done by UNISEF itself. If you want I can put it here once again but dnt want to humiliate you once again.

You are probably right about this, i find that really weird and irrational. That was the very point of my post. Seeking transit from Bangladesh is a totally irrational decision that politicians probably made while they were high. Building a freeway through India's north east is a much better option.

.
Poverty in India is widespread, with the nation estimated to have a third of the world's poor. In 2011, World Bank stated, 32.7% of the total Indian people fall below the international poverty line of US$ 1.25 per day (PPP) while 68.7% live on less than US$ 2 per day....go to wikipedia
