IndiaTuesday said it supported the formation of thePalestineunity government and hoped the dialogue withIsraelis resumed at the earliest towards a mutually acceptable political solution.

In a statement, the external affairs ministry spokesperson said the formation of the unity government is in keeping with India's stance of supporting the reconciliation efforts between West Bank and Gaza, which is key to a sustainable Palestinian state.

"India has noted the commitment of the unity government to the obligations assumed by Palestine in the peace process with Israel. It is hoped that the dialogue between the two sides can be resumed at the earliest in a pragmatic and constructive spirit, towards a mutually acceptable political solution," the statement said.

"India has consistently supported a peaceful and negotiated solution between Palestine and Israel, resulting in a sovereign, independent, viable and united State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side and at peace with Israel, within secured and recognised borders."

A Palestinian unity government was sworn in Monday at Ramallah in the West Bank, ending seven years of rivalry between the Palestinian factions, Fatah and Hamas. The government is headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.

Israel has opposed creation of the unity government.

A unity government between terrorists organization( Hamas) and FATA will make no difference, if not worsen it.
Israel _ Palestine issue is never going to be solved.

Bad move.

I expected our new PM to support Israelis.

But we will have to do that until we get the pipeline from Russia into India. Once we are less dependent on Middle East, then we can officially change our policy.

This is a good move. Supporting Israel doesn't mean you have to blatantly one sided and oppose the Palestinian struggle for statehood.

Is India even dependent on the Middle East?? I don't why a nation like India would be. You guys are developing at a fast rate.

Dependent in terms of energy resources. Though Middle East depends on India for majority of its food in same proportion but still.

Where was your struggle before 1967?

Technically we won't have taken sides, if your islamic countries had not created problems in our northern state of Jammu & Kashmir. Simply put, by creating a similar situation, your bigger friends invited this attention.

Stop judging us on something we have nothing to do. Muslims make up many different nations. You treat us as if we're one entity.

No harm in mere lip service....relationship with Israel is one of the closely guarded secrets of India.

Check how much of nuisance OIC has created for us politically that too on our internal matter. I think you should ask them to stop.

I am not treating you as one entity; you all behave like one entity except for maybe Turkey, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
