League of nation had no power as anyone can resigned from the league and oppose it. UN is powerful because the biggest powers are in charge and maintain peace. India is not ready for UNSC permanent membership yet as its not powerful enough. If its powerful enough, I'm certain everyone else will be accomodating. In another word, if India threatens to resign if it does not have UNSC permanent seat, then other P5 would just say, "get out of here"

India has lot more leverage in the world scene than it had 10 years ago and will only increase 10 years from now.

The only thing you post here that qualify India for a seat in UNSC is that it has the 2nd most populous nation. Why was that fact changed in the recent past? As for economic increase, once India reach to a certain level. It can request a seat. Otherwise, any resolution to add India or any country to UNSC will be dead on arrival.

So your assumption that India should be an economic power house to go anywhere in the UNSC seat deal, is understandable but is not "necessary" requirement. The UNSC reform is a slow process, Hillary got it right, India is a self-appointed front runner. The American right is hell-bent on dismantling the UN and who knows what is in store. We've had this discussion before. China split blood for the allied victory as an independent country. This were the reasons why it received a seat.

The UNSC is being reform because the world is coming to agree that this is an antiquated criteria for great powerhood, which is why India is being considered at all. So how can this be used both for and against India's inclusion at the same time. It makes no sense.

in 1945, china was nominally(ie barely) a great power, the nation was at the face of it, was united under the KMT who was much better equipped than the CCP and china has a lot of military equipment from lend-lease and from surrendering Japanese thus as one of the p big winner of WW2 that emerge with the capability to continue fighting it was awarded a seat at the UNSC. but then bam! the CCP wins the civil war 4 years later then then as successor to the ROC it finnaly took up the UNSC seat in the 70s in the same way that Russia took over from the USSR. that is just history. india however, what influence does india have outside of india? US and co. we dont have to talk about, Russia and china certainly has their own influence on nations, especially ones shunned by the west. who can india tell what to do? how far is the reach of india diplomatic arm? certainly at this point it is not on the level of the P5 hence it will not get a UNSC seat till it can command a greater voice internationally

China is a UNSC member which means one veto from CHINA it is OVER.

Of course you don't need China's vote but China will veto it (if it were passed) as any change of the UN constitution must be further approved by the P5. I don't think National People's Congress will let it pass.

Also, China's GDP is 1/3 of USA, but it is not decling like US is. China is not owning 14 trillions of debt. In fact it holds 5 trillions of debt and have 3 trillion $ of cash sitting in the bank.
