India and Pakistan are becoming competitive wool processing centres.
China has long been the most efficient at producing woollen products and has taken the majority of Australian wool for the last couple of decades.
But Chinese citizen and wool expert from Elders, Ken Meng, says that's changing.
"Comparable with Europe, China is still cheap. But all prices now, for power, for water and labour, it's all come up."
Mr Meng also says Australian merino wool is still considered to be the best in the world.
