India - 6th Nation to Make a Sucessful Arrested Landing : Tejas

New Delhi: The naval variant of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas made a successful short landing with arrestor wires on the Shore Based Test Facility (SBTF) in Goa on Friday. This is seen as a major step forward for the delayed project as it tests modifications that will allow the naval variant of the Tejas to eventually operate from an aircraft carrier.

The naval LCA made its first flight in April 2012 and two prototypes have been flying as part of the development. The first prototype (NP1) of the Naval LCA made a successful first flight from the SBTF in 2014. The SBTF, which replicates the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, was specifically built to train naval pilots in the complex manoeuvres of landing on the short flight deck of an aircraft carrier before they moved on to the actual carrier.

Once the results of the trials on the SBTF are deemed successful, the LCA will attempt a landing on the deck of the Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.

Good development but Naval LCA will never see the light.

Indian Navy is interested in twin Engine MWF.

But this tech will help speed up the LCA MK2 for Navy.

Essentially just a tech demonstrator...

Well, Indian Su 30s ( NOT the MKI ) , SSBN S2, The Arihant , Agni I , Astra ( Original before re design ) all were tech demonstrators which led to sucessful development of MUCH BETTER TECHNOLOGY.

Rafale M makes sense, but who knows for IAC they might consider this as well. May be a Navel AMCA which like LCH will use all technologies from ALH.

why so much wires are coiled around wheels of tejas ,it not seems operational yet and such wires exposure to external environment is not good for jets due to air friction

Yes it is but it is very important tech that will go long way down the line for Tejas MK 2 & AMCA programs.

Tejas MK1 is just acting as a test bed for Tejas MK 2 & AMCA programs.

Now try to fly this fuckugly machine

India is the only country that still doing trials of a jet started 4 decades back....hats off.

has pakistan even Tried a Navel Fighter Design ? bacche.. Jo kaam khud na kia ho.. uske baare me bolna achhii baat nahi.

These are the Trials of "Naval" version. Airforce Version is Done. and Inducted.

Well, tejas program is quite like the F35 "Program" , one fighter as a common base for multiple branches.. IAF/NAVY. Naval version required structural changes hence the delay.

IAF has Already raiased its Squadron.. and a New Order for 80+ Aircrafts is Already Done.

why this jet not used on 27feb if it was operational
