What's new

Independent Rajputana

MMS was planning on withdrawing from Siachen until the army chief dug in. Same was the plan with Sir Creek when Modi shot off that letter to him. It happened on the matter of islands with Bangladesh too. Our liberals have been for ever talking of being generous and the govt was amenable to it.
No govt can afford to do such thing. No if no but.

If they don't like Congress, let them vote for the BJP. Better still, if the BJP doesn't work for them, let them create a regional party to project their aspirations and bring it to power. But secession from the Union just because of hatred towards Congress?? That's some advanced dementia! (In any case, it's clear what the majority think. 163/200 is a pretty emphatic scorecard.

The hatred towards Congress is due to its perceived partiality towards certain community apart from its economic failures. Considering that has been a consistent policy of India for all its independent history, it wont be advanced dementia if sustained in a likewise manner for a couple more yeaars.

People would not dare voice such opinions earlier. Then came the liberals with their Westernized views and it became fashionable to air such views with more and more people speaking in support of giving away land. It is just preparing ground to make such a decision acceptable to people in the future.

Deathbychocolate that was. Why?

the union is not dead.. scots wont vote for separation..
btw i was talking about democratic right .. not end result.

You know very well that in a heterogenous society like ours, one can find a thousand reasons why we should all separate and go our merry ways. I don't think we can ever compare ourselves with any European Nation as our problem sets are way too divergent.

I don't think we're there yet in becoming a totally liberal democracy. It's better that certain seemingly draconian laws still exist in order to strengthen the idea of India better. Any seditious talk ought to be taken seriously, period.

Are you alright tonight? You are sounding suddenly very reasonable to me. LOL.

when you allow people breathing space.. you give strength to democracy..
that flexibility becomes your strength..
strong state law that hold people so tightly that they cant breath was the reason for our brittle democracy during indira period.. which also gave rise to most demands for separation

I'm always reasonable and rational. And this is what makes me question some of the irrational social ills that we still harbour.

I might be wrong, but I don't see things playing out the way you presenting.

Yes. Democracy should give breathing space and avenues for dissent. But not to those who're out to destroy the very democracy that gave them their freedom in the first place.

The reasons for separatism still prevalent in India can be attributed to only two reasons.
1. Non-uniform development within India.
2. Vote-Bank Politics

I am with @Indischer on this one. Any two bit populist leader with separatist notions can cause trouble.

One of the great achievements of India is how well it has managed it's diversity so far.

Anyone endagering that, well it's time to throw away the key on that one.

Now that is a stretch, most likely the occasional bout of sanity you suffer once in a while :P.:D
