IN Eastern Command

Nope, its still under command of the Western Fleet.
Both boats will remain with western fleet, sword arm of our navy. When Vikrant is launched, viky will be transferred to eastern fleet. Thank you.

@asad71 Please don't use tags for images. It will NOT WORK. Upload images as attachments "Upload a File".

Just seeing lots of image links here.
@WebMaster. @Horus. PDF has started to suck big time! One can't even post images directly out here anymore! I think PDF needs to shut shop and go home if they can't afford more bandwidth (If that's the reason). This site is becoming a joke of gigantic proportions!

The only website on the internet where one can't post images directly! Jeeez! :pissed:

I am aware of such changes, mate. Perhaps you took it on face value. There no strict line deviding the fleets. At most of the time some boats are crusing in others areas that too within small sea border line corridor. So yes there is overlap in area which provide redundancy and support in case any emergency appears on horizon. I am not much in knowldge of southern fleet from inside but what I have seen personally there has the full chance to surprise you. I can't share those information but believe me we have more than enough boats in southern fleet than we are aware of.

I understand what you are saying. But, because a ship is in a particular port, does not bring it under that command. There are only 2 fleets, Western and Eastern. There are no major surface combatants as part of Southern command. I have been to Kochi naval base, since thats my hometown and have seen the ships anchored there. There is an naval air station which falls under the Southern command. Southern command remains mainly a training command. @Capt.Popeye will have a better understanding of this.

About 30 % of our older boats will be replaced by bigger, better sensor updated and well armed boats of similer numbers. so quantoty wise there will not be much change but quality wise we are doing leap jumps every year. This year we have got carrier, stealth destroyer, stealth corvette(light frigate as per indian definition). Next year our SSBN. then in 2016 our SSKs, next year our homie carrier plus stealth advanced frigates in next year. By then our SSN will be in the dock. Thank you.
Dont forget Bangalore class destroyer.

About Southern Naval Command (SNC) you are quite correct. It is largely a Training Command, though it does have a Squadron of Ships in its Command; the 1st Training Squadron. All of the other estts are shore-based and extends as far as INS Shivaji (the Engg Trg Estt) in Lonavala and INS Valsura (the Elec Trg Estt) in Jamnagar.

Though it seems likely that even SNC may become an Operational Command soon in the future. Just recently; the post of COS (Chief of Staff) of SNC was upgraded to R/Adm rank. He is COS to FOCINC SNC who is a V/Adm like the other Commands already. So the parity between all Commands has been achieved, That make sense, since in my view; SNC will get increasingly saddled with responsibility for the IOR upto Seychelles and Diego Garcia and South of Sumatra.

I am aware of theoretical operational status as well as practical. I have been to Kochi naval base also. Goa, Karwar, Kochi and Mumbai(current city) even though my birthplace is Kashi. My best friend is a malyali I have stated many times. He hails from Trivendram but his family is living in Kochi as his father is shifted to Kochi base from Mumbai. I saw many things which are not open in public. Navy maintains silence over where exactly boats are deployed due to security threats. I am not going to divulge more on that. You are correct when you say by the book that Southern fleet has only training facilities. Thank you.

. . . .
First one will come in 2018.
Mate I live in mumbai only and see Kolkata class construction many times. If you are under impression that they will deliever it as promised then you are wrong. They are giving lolypop to general public for eye candy and government has no other option at the moment. So they are taking advantage of it and exploiting current lack of competition in destroyer building. Their ship building process is still pathetic from inside. One doesn't get to see much. Mark my words they will overshoot their promise in no time. Thank you.
