I keep telling my Iranian baradars when they express disappointment that I do not speak Persian nor have a burning desire to learn it.

Put a monkey in Iran and 2-3 generations later his progeny and their progeny will be speaking fluent Persian.

But what does that really mean historically?

Trade the monkey for Arabs, Turks and Africans and the equation still stands.
