In an angry neighbourhood

We’ve been making people very angry lately. Not that I’d like to call Pakistan the bad guy in any scenario but lets face it, we need to acknowledge the fact that we’ve been seriously ticking off our neighbours lately.

India and Pakistan have had a bitter relationship since the big breakup but the Mumbai attacks made things even worse. India keeps wanting us to hand over the bad guys, we keep asking them to handover the evidence and basically nothing gets done. Rehman Malik appears on our television screens looking frazzled but trying very hard to keep a calm face while he insists that Pakistan is doing everything it can – obviously India doesn’t think so. In fact India is not even willing to resume peace talks with us – and why should it? Didn’t we just dismiss the charges against Hafiz Saeed, the alleged mastermind of the 26/11 attacks?

Switch over to the other side and you’ve got angry Afghans asking us to stop facilitating the various Taliban factions. Afghanistan continues to accuse the ISI for aiding the Taliban and hence suicide attacks across the Durand Line are often blamed on ‘foreign elements’ – and we all know what they mean by that don’t we? Granted Pakistan needs to continue its hard work to wipe-out these militants but in these troubled times, showing a bit of compassion to the neighbour would be nice too…. We are still home to some 1.7 million Afghans aren’t we? And not that I’m trying to perpetuate this blame game, but please do note that an Afghan national was involved in the attack on the Manawan police training school in March. However, it is only the Pakistanis who get all the fingers pointed at them.

As if pacifying these two neighbours wasn’t enough, now we have a semi-steaming Iran too. Iran accuses Pakistan’s involvement in the bombing on Sunday, which killed more than 40 people. The statements given by Iran regarding the Jundallah group which it holds responsible, were followed by reaffirmations of good ties and brotherhood between the two nations – necessary sugar-coating or sincere understanding between the two nations?

As this blog goes up, a blast erupts in Islamabad’s Islamic University. Comments after comments received on various blogs highlight the same idiom ‘as you sow, so shall you reap’. About time we move on from that rhetoric, no? Although we cannot forget and disconnect from acts of terrorism abroad which are blamed on Pakistan, we must also focus on the casualties we ourselves are suffering day after day. Our government continues to pacify the neighbours, US continues to condemn everything going down and our innocent citizens keep dying day after day. No doubt our A-team comprising Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Rehman Malik and the rest are trying very hard to address everyone’s concerns but can’t our neighbours take China’s cool silent stance for a bit while we try and sort things out? Or would that be asking for too much – we are neighbours after all aren’t we?

The author's sentiments are self-righteous and myopic, playing the injured victim card down to a nicety. What is left unsaid is so glaringly patent that it would have been less offensive had it been articulated.

Simply put, China has not had to suffer outrages exported from the terror factory that is their Pakistan. On the other hand, India, Afghanistan, and now Iran, have. Repeatedly. From their "neighbour." Where were the neighbourly sentiments at that time? Should these 3 neighbours now shed tears, or should they take a "cool silent stance"?

After all, nobody in either India or Afghanistan is under ANY illusions about "friendly neighbour" Pakistan's top priority once (and if) they manage to clean their own house.

And that is never going to be a question of IF, but always of WHEN ..... and WHERE.

So Pakistanis are requested to pardon us if we don't shed a tear or wave our pom-poms and shake our mini-skirted booties while the Pakistani "official" army takes on its "unofficial" bastard offspring.

Cheers, Doc

The problem with Pakistan is the denial mode and the policy to not to accept anything. This just delays the cleansing process. people like fake propaganda and the consipiracy theorists like Zaid Hamid which embibe fake sense of pride. There are people who feel proud that the 10 Pakistanis were able to hold the Indian forces for 3 days. The sooner people realize the problem sooner it will be solved. But people continue to live in fake pride of being best in the world.

Why is it only Pakistan that fingers are pointed towards her. India also has bad relations with China but why does not the fingers pointed towards her. Smoke comes when there is fire.

Of course India is not perfect but we know our mistakes which we made in Godhra and others and there has been no such incident since then. But in case of Pakistan it continues to be in the same state as it was yesterday.

we are not short of people on this forum also who want ZH to be the president of Pakistan in the coming days. And there are comments which you can find about how the 10 people from Pakistan were able to keep the indians on hold for 3 days.

And regarding operations did i say about the internal problems within Pakistan, i meant about the elements in Pakistan which pose a threat to the neighbours. Taliban is your mess you love them hate them its upto you. what matters to us are the groups which cause problems within neighbours. you are cleaning your problems. you have always been in denial till the proofs were given to you and still continue to be in the same state.

As far as the attitude of people what do you expect after following the policy of terrorism (as accepted by your politicians)and India with 1000 cuts. Do you expect people to feel sorry for you after so many people died within India from terrorist attacks which had roots within Pakistan. :hitwall:

Want a perfect example - People here were supoorting Jijya against Sikhs (provided muslims pay Zakat - ok come on who cares you pay zakat or not - what has a Sikh got to do with that) instead of condemning the acts of Taliban or the Pseudo Taliban ( ok some people commented against Taliban blah blah blah but there were many who tried to support the Jijiya against the Sikhs)
