Imran Khan backs off statement to make Ahmadi economist his Finance Minister | Rabwah Times

Pakistan's most liberal and outspoken politician Imran Khan last night backtracked over his support for the Ahmadi economist Atif Mian after receiving serious backlash from Islamist Clerics.

Since August 15th Mr Khan has been leading a sit-in demonstration against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad.

On September 13th while addressing the protest he announced that after coming into power, he would never compromise on merit and have people like Professor Atif Mian as his finance minister rather than appointing a relative like Nawaz Sharif’s Samdhi (daughter’s father-in-law) Ishaq Dar.View attachment 116903
Atif Mian is a 39 year old Pakistani-American, professor of economics at Princeton University. International Monetary Fund (IMF) named Mian as one of 25 young economists who are expected to be most influential in the decades to come.

In his interview to a Britain based Islamic web channel Khan clarified that he did not intentionally mention Atif Mian and implied that had he known about his faith he would not have done so.

I mentioned the name of Atif Mian because I read in a magazine that he is one of the top 25 economists of the world, I did not know that he ran a campaign against "KhatmeNabuwat (Finality of Prophethood)" I had no clue about it.

He went on to say:

All should be equal in the eyes of the Law and thats how it was in the state of Medina (Saudi Arabia), Everybody had rights, Christians had rights, Jews had rights ... everyone had rights. Those were the rights of all Humans and i say they are all equal in the eyes of the Law but to say that someone who does not believe Prophet (Muhammad SAW) to be the last Prophet is Muslim, that can not happen.

Responding to Imran Khan's remarks against Ahmadiyya Muslim beliefs Atif Mian who up till now has kept quiet about the issue sent the following tweet to Imran Khan:

backs off?

No he is not backing off on this.

He is simply making his usual Uturn.

With such Uturning, no need for slogan "Go Imran Go", as he himself will make a uturn and leave.

I agree. Unfortunately, Imran Khan looks confused about who he wants to keep happy, molvis or liberals. He probably thinks he has enough enemies already.

May be he is confused. May be not.

He has been Taliban Khan for a long time though.

Whats the problem if the guy is Ahmedi?

I don't like those uneducated Molvis as well, but the problem here is not just someone who believes another religion or not believe in Islam. The problem here is that Ahmadis claim to be Muslim but they believe prophet Muhamad is not the last messenger, the other guy(I forgot his name) is the last prophet. Now, I have nothing against other religions, but by saying you are Muslim but denying something that is in the Quran is unacceptable. At least Shias and Sunnis difference is just the Khalifah, both groups agree that prophet Muhammad is the last prophet, but Ahmadis don't even believe that. I agree with IK's logic here. No offence to Ahmadis, I have no personal issue against them or anything (most of them are probably born into Ahmadi family just like Muslims, Christians, etc) but when it comes to religion you need to draw the line.

The funny thing is not whether he likes or dislikes Ahmadis, it is about deciding who will be "finance minister" in a non existent government........

Its not even about Ahmadis being non muslim he already declared them "NonMuslim" even though

When Imran Khan was called an infidel by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he responded by quoting the incident from Islamic history where Prophet Muhammad reprimanded a companion for killing a Meccan opponent during war, even after he had read the Kalima.

Yet, when it comes to Ahmadis, Imran Khan thinks the Kalima is no standard for the Muslim faith. He and Fazlur Rehman share the same repressive mentality in this regard.

BUT Its about whether a non muslim or specifically "Ahmadi" can be a Minister or not ?

Yes because with Kalma the belief that HAZRAT MUHAMMAD SAW is the last and final PROPHET is also compulsory and he is a Muslim and doesn't follow liar Mirza

Right and here is you coming up with new meaning for a Kalima just to justify Taliban Khan's stance ! GREAT no wonder Pakistan is doing so good in everything.

I could have asked if you beleive in Jesus coming back but i wouldn't because i dont want a religious discussion its about making him Minister not Muslim Ahmadis dont need Imran Khan's Fatwa to be Muslim or nonMuslim
