Dear
@BBC and
@stephensackur Further to Steven Sackur’s interview with Imran Khan, we are compelled to highlight some serious flaws in the research prior to the programme and the approach taken by Mr Sackur during the interview.
The BBC has a standard in international news reporting. We all turn to the BBC to acquire a balanced view of reporting which the BBC has long been a bastion of. However, in this interview, there was an overt level of attention afforded to the accusations levelled by the sitting Government and asserted in a way in which to suggest that an alternative truth could not be possible.
The very notion that Imran Khan’s rhetoric has given rise to the violent protests is the unadulterated narrative of the present administration – and it’s an accusation which has been peddled through a muzzled and controlled media with absolute impunity.
If you were to get an independent opinion form the street, 80% of the people will assert that the 9th May attacks were staged and meant to dismantle the PTI. It is also to be noted that that the same government has proven itself to be of an overtly fascist persuasion and duly emboldened by the protection and shadow of military sponsorship.
Mr Sackur said it was ‘irresponsible’ for Khan to accuse the military of running a puppet Government. What if that is exactly what is going on? Are we to blindly accept the yoke of military dictatorship through the utility of a controlled Government? Why do you believe we should just shut up in the face of the falsehood? Are we children of a lesser God? Khan has given a long absent awareness and confidence to the people of how the country has been usurped by two families and a military establishment since its inception. The whole country knows what is going on.
Are we to continue to remain quiet in the face of this callous tyranny?
Furthermore, we would like to ask why Mr Sackur wouldn’t question the following:
- Murder, Torture, disappearance & custodial torture of prominent reporters. To the extent that the Courts are being told by security forces that they don’t know where certain abducted reporters are.
- No observation of the constitution or rule of law in the country and Supreme Court Orders disregarded
- Political workers tortured and brutally killed and entire party leadership arrested
- Senior party leaders abducted, stripped naked and filmed
- The fact that the cases are bogus – at least call it ‘incredible’ to suggest it seems a bit extreme
- Women and children arrested and harassed
- Forced entrances into homes without warrantspeaceful protestors killed by police in recent protests
- Media houses forbidden to even mention Imran Khan’s name
- Internet and social media crackdowns
How about talking about the actual nature fo the current government?
- Comprised of an unnoly alliance of 13 misaligned parties with no public mandate
- The Government takes dictates from an absconded leader in London
- 60% of current cabinet are convicted criminals
Why would you not address the draconian Bills that are being passed in Parliament to effect a total muzzling of freedom of speech and assembly?
All in all, you have not given attention to the things that matter: the absence of law and order and the total dismantling of democracy. You are meant to be the bastions of democracy; Westminster is called the mother of all Parliaments. And Pakistan is a commonwealth country – should you not be concerned about all these violations?
You have presented a skewed version of the ground realities which is tantamount to both avoiding a recognition of the gross iniquities and quietly condoning them.
In respect of the research, your advisers have identified fundamentally compromised personalities in the person of Fawad Chaudry, Jahangir Tareen and Pervez Khattak. You have to be from the circles of the informed electorate to know these people are not serious politicians who stand by a political outlook or a set of principles. These people have long been tools of the Establishment (an entity whose existence that no-one denies) always ready to be utilized for political expediency in what is tantamount to modern-day Machiavellianism.
All in all, this episode of Hardtalk seemed to be observing a pre-determined agenda to re-enforce the criminal silence of the UK government with regards to the gross Human Right and democratic abuses being meted out in Pakistan.
