Turkish manufacturer Roketsan will be at IDEX which opens in Abu Dhabi today to demonstrate its next generation weapon system, Stand-Off Missile (SOM) system.

The cruise missile, with complex guidance technologies and warheads is designed to enhance the air-to-surface warfare capabilities of fighter aircraft.
Under serial production, SOM is already in the inventory of the Turkish Air Force (TAF), integrated and certified on the F-4E/2020 and F-16 Block40 fighter aircraft platforms. Due to the common requirements of Turkish Air Force and JSF (F-35) program, SOM has been offered as a modern anti-surface cruise missile for newly developed F-35 JSF fighter aircraft.
SOM is an autonomous, long range (250 km), low observable, high precision, all weather, air to surface new generation cruise missile to be used against highly defended, anti-access and high value stationary and moving land/surface (ASuW) targets.
Roketsan has also signed a cooperation agreement with Airbus Defence & Space to study the integration of SOM on the Eurofighter Typhoon and possible future platforms.
Roketsan and Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control signed an agreement in 2014 for collaboration on the SOM-J, a new generation air-to-surface Stand-Off Cruise Missile for the F-35 aircraft. The companies will jointly develop, produce, market, sell and support SOM-J for internal carriage on F-35 aircraft or external carriage on other aircraft.

Following a pause in production, the Turkish company of BMC Otomotiv Sanayi ve Ticaret (Turkish Pavilion, Stand 10-D10) has ramped up output of its Kirpi (4x4) mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicle, which is being shown at IDEX 2015 fitted with a remote weapon station.

Following a competition, the Turkish Land Forces Command (TLFC) selected the Kirpi to meet its requirement for its first MRAP vehicle.

An initial contract was placed for 468 vehicles, but production ceased for a period after 278 vehicles. Production has now started again, and the company told the IDEX Show Daily that, “around 600 vehicles have now been delivered and they are now operating successfully”.

The Kirpi MRAP has been offered on the export market for several years and the first customer was Tunisia, which has taken delivery of about 40 vehicles. The Kirpi MRAP features an all-welded steel armoured monocoque hull with a V-shaped lower half that provides a high level of protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), small arms fire and shell splinters.

In addition to its crew of three, the Kirpi MRAP carries a total of 10 dismounts when used in the armoured personnel carrier configuration. Standard equipment includes an air-conditioning system and suspended seats with five-point safety belts for a higher level of crew survivability.

Further development by the company has resulted in a 6x6 version of the Kirpi, which shares many common automotive components with the current production 4x4 vehicle, but has more volume and payload and can undertake a wider range of battlefield missions.

Development of the Kirpi (6x6) is complete and production can commence when firm orders are placed. BMC has delivered approximately 5,000 wheeled vehicles to the Turkish armed forces, including 2.5-ton and 5-ton (4x4), 10-ton (6x6) and 20-ton (8x8) versions.

In addition to the Kirpi (4x4) MRAP, the company is exhibiting its BMC 380-26-P (6x6) 10-ton cross-country tactical truck fitted with a cargo body – just one of the many versions currently available.

IDEX 2015: FNSS designing two ATGW vehicles
25th February 2015 - 6:00 by Tim Fish in Abu Dhabi

aa37590d.jpg

FNSS has begun conceptual design and technical feasibility work on wheeled and tracked anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) carrier vehicles for the Turkish Army, the company has revealed.

A spokesperson from the company told Shephard at the IDEX exhibition in Abu Dhabi that FNSS is designing a tracked vehicle and a 4x4 vehicle to carry the Russian Kornet-E ATGM and the Mizrak-O ATGM from Roketsan.

According to the spokesperson, Kornet-E and Mizrak-O have already been selected by the Turkish Army – although this was not confirmed by Roketsan – and the service needs 260 vehicles on which both ATGM systems can be mounted.

The 260 vehicles will comprise 184 tracked and 76 wheeled vehicles and approval for the programme is expected in Q4 of this year.

Similar to the Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) programme the Weapon Carrying Vehicle programme will pit FNSS against Turkish rival Otokar. FNSS said its 4x4 and tracked designs will be completely new, and the 4x4 design could be displayed at the IDEF exhibition in Istanbul in May.

Detailed specifications for what the Turkish Army requires were released last year, and both FNSS and Otokar responded to the RFQ, which was completed in December 2014.

Mizrak-O is a medium-range ATGM that has an imaging infra-red (IIR) seeker with tandem warhead and a range of 4km. A spokesperson from Roketsan told Shephard that the Mizrak-O missile is designed to be fired from a tripod, a launch tube on a vehicle, or by a soldier and that its weight of 35kg reflects the desire for it to be manportable. He added that testing of the system has been completed.

Mizrak-O is similar to its sister air-launched missile system, the Mizrak-U (formerly known as the Turkish Anti-tank Missile, or TAM-LR) and designated as UMTAS (Uzun Menzilli Tanksavar Projesi) , which is available with an IIR seeker or a laser designator and can hit targets out to a range of 8km.

So this means we will see a new FNSS 4x4 ATGW vehicle for the first time... And as i understand they made some changes on FNSS KAPLAN or they will unveil completely new tracked ATGW vehicle...

Guys what's your comment on this... Did i understant it right ?..

I don't think they will unveil a new tracked vehicle. After all, FNSS uses M113 for all of their vehicles.
Ürünlerimiz - FNSS Savunma Sistemleri A.Ş.

This is the thing that i don't like about the FNSS...they are still using M113 design from 1960s whereas Otokar came with Tulpar in such a short time although nobody asked them for it.

Yes i think same about FNSS's M113 captivity :D but when i look these words i see new tracked vehicle possible... And they say 4x4 can be displayed @ IDEF but they don't say such a thing about tracked vehicle... And i hope 'new tracked vehicle' is true...

Maybe they realized that they can't compete against OTOKAR with their mindset. :D
