India's topline Sukhoi Su-30 combat planes will permanently roar over Rajasthan's skies, with the Indian Air Force deploying from Saturday a squadron of the air superiority fighter jets at the Jodhpur air base, from where the Pakistan border is a mere two minute flight away.

"This will be the first time a squadron of the Su-30MKI aircraft is being based in Rajasthan, that too close to Pakistan border
," a defence ministry official told IANS here Friday.

With the induction of the Sukhoi squadron in Rajasthan, the Indian Air Force's (IAF) strike capability has been ramped up considerably.

"The squadron will formally assume its duties with effect from October 1 from Jodhpur air base," defence spokesperson at Jodhpur Col. S.D. Goswami said.

"The squadron taking to the Western sector skies - with its lethal strike force, multi-role function and weaponry carrying capability - will give unassailable advantage to IAF in this sector," Goswami said.

The twin-engined Russian-origin Sukhoi Su-30, with a capacity to touch 2 Mach or 2,450 kmph speeds, are now produced under licence in India.

These war birds are set to get deadlier with the integration of the supersonic BrahMos cruise missile very soon. The aircraft has a range of 5,200 km and a capacity to carry 8,000 kg of warheads.

The Sukhoi squadron will have 16 aircraft in its inventory.

The planes have already arrived Jodhpur from Pune in Maharashtra
, where they were previously based, officials said.

Very close to for any Pakistani preemptive missile attack to Rajasthan.:guns: :enjoy:

Being too close to the border is not always smart plan, especially with a hugh valued asset like mki.
Hope its fortified with SAMs too.

And your assessment is the birds will be sitting ducks for pre-emptive strikes. Do you really think this has not crossed MoD's assessment.

My be but the report didn't tell any missile defence for this base and missile defence is not 100% safety . so few ballastic missile can dodge the Indian defence it will be moral psychological gain by Pakistan

Let us say the SAM defence is something MoD does not want to disclose. And let us say that it takes 5 mins for Su 30s to get airborne and it takes just 2 mins for pre-emptive strikes. Before Su 30 MKI get air born the missiles would land. But will you the say the same about all Pakistani airbases (60%) are within 2 mins flying distance from Indian border and (95%) that is within 4 mins flying distance. If it takes the same 5 mins for Pakistani pilots to get air borne what would you tell them ?

It should be a modified base where aircrafts and other important systems are hidden in ground as its very close to border.
and one aircraft should be in flying mode 24X7 to have a look on pakistani border if any threat is available or not
