The Jockeying may not, but the threat perception will.. and "the sum of all fears" will create a certain paranoia to expedite such an induction of 5th gen aircraft.
The current known 5th gen threat.. the J-20.. isnt even suited to be taken as a serious aggressor.
The actual threat will remain to be China's own 4.5 gen programs in the J-11B and other mass capability upgrades.
Better EW, ADA assets.. and infrastructure is the call of the day.. the 5th gen can wait.

What threat to India will be sprawling with 5th gen aircraft that its planned 2017 fleet of mostly 4.5 gen jets could not handle?

So much was expected for 2017-18, it has gone even beyond this decade.
If i am not wrong, you will built FGFA out of PAK-FA like MKI and this will be done only after PAK-FA hits production and build up one or two Sqn for RAF. It is delayed beyond expectations people, it would be hard to catch up with J-20.

WRONG- IAF and RuAF will recieve orders simultaneously. And the IAF is going for a ~70/30 mix of FGFA/PAK-FA- the anology of the FGFA being the PAK-FA MKI is fitting to be fair but design work has already begun on this project but, yes, proper development and testing won't start until after 2017/18 once PAK-FA development is near finished. The IAF will have to be satisfied with the PAK-FA until the FGFA comes online.

not from the west anyway.. so the only question of a 5th gen threat is from the north...

Unlikely IMHO J-20 has been speculated to be nothing more than a TD and even if it were to be the future 5th gen fighter of the PLAF there is very little likelihood of it being matured and tested in time to be real before PAK-FA which has been in development, in one way or anther, for decades.

How else did Indians expect ? To have PAK-FA in IAF before even Russia gets it ?

Who is saying this?!! Previously it had been stated both Russia and India would get the PAK-FA in 2017. But that was unrealistic so now 2019/20 is being stated, India and Russia will get theirs at very close intervals.

Btw initial order of pakfa and fgfa. is 210 i think.42 pak fa single seater and 168 fgfa .

More than likely , it will be in active service at the same time or before PAK FA enters operational service ... The Chinese progress in the Aerospace engineering has been astonishing and as such it is really foolish to underestimate them ... Did you expect them to develop J10 , J11 and other aircrafts in record time ?

Is the 2019 timeline for the PMF or single-seat PAK-FA?

According to Sukhoi CEO Mikhail Pogosyan, IAF will get the russian-version single-seat fighter BEFORE the
Indian-version twin-seat is developed and inducted. The production lines for PAK-FA would
kick off in 2015 in Russia, from out of which India would get its first stealth fighter. The production line
in India would be for the twin-seat PMF, not the russian version. So PMF would come by 2019, but
we're likely to get some 30-40 or so PAK-FAs (single-seat version) before that.

Secondly, the Super Sukhoi, termed by Alexei Fedorov as "near-fifth generation" would be ready by
2015 itself, add to it the first operational squadrons of Rafale and LCA MK-II with AESA radars which would be
flying by then....in comparison to J-10B/J-11B which would be the most relevent threat from PLAAF at this
time, IAF fleets would stand in good light as SS-MKI would be superior to J-11B and Rafale much
ahead of J-10s, so the revised timeline is unlikely to have any real effect concerning the operational
capabilities of IAF at the time.

So what if there is no 5g competition ? We would have an upper hand over enemy . 2020 would be the good time for induction of PAKFAs . The delay would increase the Mki/Rafale/LCA orders .

It will be similar to how te MKI project transpired ie knock-down kits at first then full production with all raw materials sourced in-country.

Its fine if it comes by 2020, I mean by teh time it will be fully developed and tested. for a 5th gen fighter its all testing. You dont wanna get a plane which just flies.
