DRDO is a joke. They began development of LCA Tejas way back in the '80s to replace the old MiG-21.

LCA Tejas continues to be a joke even in 2017. Even the Indian Air Force doesn't trust the pathetically poor performing Tejas. Modi's "make in India" is a joke, meant to give his buddies like Ambanis and Adanis lucrative, shady defence contracts by asking them to tie up with foreign manufacturers.
