there are no reliable sourses but according to internet gossips the 30 odd navy jags that is the jag IM will be retired once the all the 45 mig 29k is operational that makes 100 jags and 100 mig 27s so if my math is correct we will go for 200 MRCA

True,but they have to figure out something to keep these in good operating conditions!This A/C along with MiG-21 have seriously dented the IAF's image in our youngsters eyes!everyone wants to join either the Army or the Navy and even if they choose the air force they would want to fly the flanker or the mirage!


First the mig 27 has out lived their service life and the engines are overhauled not replaced with new ones during up grade of course the cockpit was well upgraded but still the old airframe and the same overhauled engine which is the main reason for crash

even when i think of a question why did the IAF retired the 27's and buy more 2000's

the answer i can think of is our economy is not strong enough to buy or support soo many mirage 2000 during 80s and 90s

Agreed.But what's holding IAF back from getting these aircrafts fixed for the time being!

russia stopped mig 27 production in 1983, the collapse of USSR led to IAF buying spares from third parties

all the mig 27 built by HAl is knocked down kits supplied by USSR no TOT and no engine tech so we are taking chances till we get a new platform some time leading to crashes

there is no way we can fix them crash proof they are old nothing is left in them now

the Mig-27 at it again.....IAF should consider grounding the entire fleet (again) and spending some time doing thorough checks


the use of inferior spare parts coupled with questionable technicians is costing you guys a lot --in terms of lost assets (pilots and aircraft)

Old generation Migs are in same state as Pakistan.

My friend do some research and enlighten yourself a little at least before opening you uninformed mouth. Why don't you compare Pakistani f-7's crash and operational record with that of your "flying coffins" for a start.

Pakistani F-7s are faar better maintained and i think the track record speaks for it self.

I seriously hope we choose an MRCA that can immediately start coming in without any political hitches. Thank heavens that the pilot lived to tell about it but being world's 4th largest military power, this isn't helping our reputation and image. I don't know why isn't IAF raising hell for faster clearances from govt despite having lost so much already in terms of jets and pilots.

HAL and ADA must start working overtime to get new jets up as fast as possible. They're really going to have a field trip in the coming decade with MRCA (license), FGFA, MRTA, Tejas MK2 and MCA. If this is the standards they keep, I wonder when we would be getting a complete cutting edge fighting force.

Also, for maintenance engineers' skills sakes, we must stop Quota system in our education for some self-labeled "minor" communities. This sort of stuff affects the training and education of qualified engineers and we get this sort of nonsense in the end.

Man, your military keeps everything shut air-tight. How are we supposed to know what's really happening there? It ain't simply possible to do that here. Once in a while crashes are reported at your place to show that they're transparent, but you should know that your country's military is much more secretive than ours.

agha that is factually incorrect, PAF and the free media always notify the public of misshaps and the nature of the misshap.

we are secretive about other things; but not things like this

Mig-27 is a good fighter and it has been upgraded by India many times, however everything has a self-life.

India should speed up procurement of Euro Fighter Typhoon without any delay, 200 is the number which is being considered for a long run, at present number is 126.

As per accidents, they do happen everywhere and are publicly reported; except countries ruled by dictators, military or where military is the actual controller.
