IAF clueless about what's causing bulk of its aircraft to crash

Let's take the example of the Mirage 2000.

Both India and Taiwan bought 60 planes. While the attrition in Taiwan was 5 planes, we have lost 10 in India.

Btw, Taiwan has had their planes 5 yrs longer than India.

We cannot just stick our heads in the sand and pretend that our training and maintenance is top notch.

eg. Taiwan bought 12 two seater Mirages for training while we bought 7. Just an example of their focus on training vs ours.

The training issue has hopefully been addressed with the Hawks.

That's what I tell here.

There is definitely something wrong with our training procedures.

We are losing far more aircraft than many other countries. The MKI rate is fine in 18 years time, like any other air force, but other platforms are just way too fast in the attrition list.

IAF standards on paper may be rigorous but how much it is implemented is the question.

Not to mention the ancient machinery that most of IAF operates in the combat division. Barring the MKIs and now upgraded MiG-29s and Mirages, the MiG-23, MiG-27 and Jaguars are simply put too old. I don't understand IAF's obsession with so called MLUs (which are actually LLUs) to spend billions on just 5 additional years of service.Rather they can pool up and buy a smaller number of new jets in multiple lots.

That way it won't cost them out of their budget and at the same time, we'd have spanking new jets.

What we lag behind is the transport aircraft training. No simulators to train new transport jets, and more number of man-hours on these sims is simply not there to maintain the standards.

I heard that IAF trains cadets on HS-748 and An-32 for training. Those are relics.

IAF should place double the normal orders for MRTA aircraft which will replace the An-32s and urge MOD to expedite the process with Russia.
