What's new

I do not think my female friends should come back to Pakistan

Of course there are aholes everywhere but a victim can press charges. Harassment is clearly defined. I don't see what my friend in Lahore could have done. One of the group tried arguing with the boys, that didn't dissuade them. Another took a picture of them, that scared them away. I just know way too many girls that have been through horrible experiences.
I am not denying that hooligans dont exist...they exist on every part of this planet....They exist soo much that women rights group had to be established to help the ladies in the West!

Has that STOPPED the hooligans? Nope....Has it reduced the cases? Nope, West happens to have more cases than Asia....and we dont even have women rights groups yet! :woot:

:rofl::rofl:,I see who is talking, the Pakistani national.
Not the female citizen of Pakistan:sarcastic:
:D
The female citizen is a little too weird to approach....I have a quick mouth and mind it is tough to harass me! Not to forget I can lecture a man to shame ...I have literally stared at a man starring at me until he had to drop his gaze as I wasnt backing out and when someone asked I just said he was starring so I wanted to show him how it feels...surprisingly that made him realize he has to go home :D

Like I said each country has its dirty laundry but saying female friends should not come back to Pakistan.....that is really a loser talking! AND I am allergic to losers :p:

.
wow 2 yrs out of Pakistan and already bad mouthing...Lovely! I wont expect the author to move mountains any day soon!

Has the author somehow managed to close her eyes to all the violence in NY? Somehow living out of Pakistan for 2 yrs made her form a bubble around herself? IMPRESSIVE!

I know families who moved back with children who were born and raised in UK, America, Germany, Australia even NZ!

I know a number of white ladies (born and raised in America, UK, Denmark, Norway and also from Finland ) who are married to Pakistanis and live in Pakistan and are stronger than this lady!
Islamabad is full of em :D

There are issues however there is huge exageration in this article

.
this is for you @T-123456:

Lets keep in mind the author said it is great after highlighting this:
Drinking, sex, vulgarity, shamelessness –

Now if having that in America is great then why highlight petty:
hypocrisy, corruption, extreme intolerance, sexual abuse, extreme societal pressures, violence, and the hatred for our women.
All these are also present in America putting them in an all Pakistan exclusive category alone made me not want to read further, but I am analyzing it for you @T-123456
readjustment issues

Who doesnt have them? Everyone has readjustment issues when moving to a different environment than the one you were breathing in!

highly patriarchal society
One would be shocked that beneath all the feminism posters, West is not very feminist! Despite all the organization working overtime!

Why do I say that? When was the last women elected as president of America? I know they may just push Hilary to prove me wrong but the real answer as of date is NEVER!

Underneath all the blankets of feel good there are subtle points which many miss:
Fix The System, Not The Women | Science | AAAS
7 Things Keeping Women Out Of Science - Business Insider
Nobel scientist Tim Hunt: female scientists cause trouble for men in labs | UK news | The Guardian
America Is Still a Patriarchy - The Atlantic

Wonder where all the extra hard work of feminist groups is going when such "petty" issues ALSO exist in the West! So please dont tell me about Pakistani society! The day America gets rid off their patriarchal societies, will be the day they are allowed to pass such remarks about other societies! Until then leave it to the blind attention seekers ;)
I mean you have laws, bills where it says that equal representation for this and that is compulsory and yet you havent been able to get rid of the same word you taunt us with? that is unfair man!

creepy outsiders invading their homes and forcing them to stay in their rooms, living that way for the rest of their lives, and only venturing out in groups.
Now I am not sure which culture does that...But many at least in Islamabad roam about freely....

freely walk around without being ogled or groped at
I would like to know why in America people still get ogled and groped in public if it is a "3rd world problem" ....Is America still in 3rd world? :o:

Another friend of mine who is about to go back, much to her disappointment, already has her family lining up suitors for her to marry as soon as possible, without even her consent or consultation.

Another friend of mine who has always lived in Pakistan was constantly bombarded with pressure to have a child as soon as she got married.
Ok this is wrong and I wont support it or even cover it up...Some people are always soo free that they have time to do this shit (harass and mind other people's business)..I know some people here in the West keep poking their nose around but still!

.
Ridiculous,
Why our friends are desperate to prove that women are suppressed in Pakistan?
Pakistan is a multicultural and diverse country where people of different religion, culture, race, color and ethnicity are living.
Be it science and technology, fashion and arts or multimedia women are working everywhere and are enjoying secure environment as well.Girls raised here under are guidance of parents, given good education as they choose and married to boys of good families. Many working women enjoy marital status as well. They are doctors, engineers, researchers, corporate intellects and at the same time are loving daughters, mothers and beloved wives.
So, stop crying that women are suppressed or unsafe or "get raped" immediately as they step out in here.Women in Pakistan enjoy as equal status as their male counterparts do.
You guys either grab cases like Malala or mukhtara but ignore legends like Arfa Kareem or those brave women working at PAF or at academic or research institutes like ICCBS or serving as doctors at various hospitals.
To the author: Get a life, looser!
Regards

The thing is SURE Pakistan has its share of problems....But the bigger surprise and ACTUAL questions should be why is America despite all the precautions and laws?

Ok even the title of the article contains word 'think'. So it's just his thinking and have nothing to do with reality? Is that so? Ok I am Pakistani and living in NY as well. 1st thing, you're student of NYU and I wonder if you have meet enough of Pakistani girls. Rarely Pakistani girls think this way and that's because they got enough freedom. Unfortunately, in some cases more freedom than a typical American got and which is completely unacceptable for Pakistan's society and I find it completely fine. Since we have our own norms and values. These are exceptional cases. Secondly, all those problems the op mentioned, like harassment, sexual abuse etc. that's global problems not only in Pakistan. And writers like him need to stop misleading the world about Pakistan with the power of pen. Use it wisely!
3rdly, there maybe many females or even males don't want to return since they got better jobs and career here. But all the points you mentioned apply to very few.
His article literally made me feel like ohhhh Pakistan to insano Ki country nahi lagty and imagine if non-Pakistani who has no clue about Pakistan, reads it. What impression is he giving?
This is Arfa Karim's country my brother.

So angry that you double posted it?:sarcastic:

Why our friends are desperate to prove that women are suppressed in Pakistan?
Its not your friends posting such stuff, its your own people doing it.

Well I have a feeling Mr. NYU wrote it to somehow fit in that he doesnt belong to Pakistan...I mean 2 yrs in foreign land and you start craving to fit in so much you bad mouth your own country as though it is the ONLY country on the planet suffering from those things!

.
Particularly about this OP that's just sake of feeling or making others feel like he's completely American and nothing more.
There is another impression that religion is imposed by parents which is again wrong. You will see woman adopting religion as their own choice and many of them do so after opting for science or higher studies.Tell this god damn author to write "Pakistani female professionals" at LinkedIn search bar and he will be slapped back by hundreds of search results.

Idiot!

Well my post / question still stands....

Sure we have our set of problems, but why do the same problems still exist in America despite the laws (we are called lawless) and the "civilized society (we are called as barbaric)

KPK ke log Pakistani nahin ?

Yeah I know man, they are some desperate fools who just want to get some ratings from specific group of people. They believe that by depicting such things they will be gaining popularity and fame.

Bloody narcissist

I moved here in my very early teenage years and when even if a Pakistani say something nasty about Pakistan. I totally feel like punching his/her face. None of the country on the face of this plant is perfect. So what if Pakistan is facing the downfall. And most of the time these people are "wannabes". These types of people try so hard to give Americans look but fail so badly and then are not even Pakistani anymore. At the end isolate themselves. Low self esteem. Qasam Se this article literally pissed me off. :/
