I am learning Mandarin!!!

Two years ago, While doing my MBA, I spending four months of my summer time as an intern at Shanghai Stock Exchange, but never had an opportunity to learn Mandarin.

When my School has announced that it is conducting special evening weekly classes of Mandarin for alumni, I decided to join.

My classes will start from 30th July. Hope, I keep you posted about my learning of Mandarin. In the meanwhile can any Chinese member (Not the false flaggers ) enlighten me about learning Mandarin or any books I should purchase

Don't buy it unless you can afford it. (use ********, cracked versions avaliable)

I recommend using Rosetta Stone only after you have learnt Chinese script characters.

Rosseta Stone helps with Sentences and interaction.

I will keep posted about my progress here in this thread after every class. By the way my teacher is a young beautiful chinese women by the name Carman Luk. I am excited :

Why do Chinese have two different names...one Chinese and the other western?

Why do Chinese have two different names...one Chinese and the other western?

we have one name.but it's hard for foreigners to read,so some people who have to communicate with foreigners frequently need an English name.

Generally Chinese has no western name, only a very little has western name for English use. You learn Chinese, Mandarin is only standard Chinese with Beijing accent, when write on paper they are all the same and talk without any barrier

That is huge; how much time one would require to just speak Mandarin? My teacher is conducting weekly classes for 10 week for the beginning Mandarin and another 10 weeks for intermediate Mandarin.
