Spotter is no junk either, but a qualified sniper himself. It's more effective when operating on their own, that both can switch the jobs keeping target in sight round the clock and easing a little bit without letting their guard down.

One shot, one kill isn't always the first priority neither the head-shots nowadays, infact killing as many as possible and stacking up confirmed killed isn't the first thing on the minds of ' boots on the ground' but getting the job done. We're talking 21st century battlefields, so you need to be quick and most importantly adaptive. Recent urban engagements prove that always achieving head-shots isn't that helpful though fear factor counts but when you are swarmed by hundred guys with AKs, center mass would be more quick and easy, and target 'll still die most likely

And I'm really angry nobody has mentioned Carlos "White Feather" Hathcock yet. That guy is the true embodiment of SNIPER word. 93 confirmed kills is just a starter, noting that in Vietnam a third officer beside 2 men sniper had to confirm the kill witnessing live on the spot who wasn't with them when behind enemy lines, where they mostly operated. Hathcock set the world record for the longest sniper kill at a range of 2286 m which held till 2003, killing a VC guerrilla with this ( nothing close to a sniper rifle ) :

And check about the mission when went to kill a Vietnamese General and when he killed another sniper hunting him. Another guy Chuck Mawhinney shot 14 dead with 14 bullets in a minute but were close.

Hatchcock's best shot was when he took down a Vietnamese general. He was on a suicide mission, he knew he had very less options of coming out alive from that mission. He crawled for 3 days (patrol party missed him more than once), and on the 4th day he took aim at the general. But the hurdles were identifying the general, taking a shot at him in such a way that he dies on the spot (he aimed at general's heart from beyond 700 yards) and the third was escaping without getting caught.

With similar training's an enemy sniper has more chances of spotting you.

Hunting snipers seems to be a pretty easy job,,, as long as you are doing it in images on your laptop

Am sure that in real life a sniper would hunt us down before we hunt him.

Haha interesting. I have heard about some other fancy bullets as well. Perhaps it will be the bullet of choice for future snipers but in today's world it is not that much of a cost effective solution. ( Chriss Kyle killed 300 with ordinary bullets.)

Spotting was big issue as he said Leaders love to show their authority and point everything with their finger, soon their was one showing the signs plus putting the first round on target without any help in those conditions was marvelous. And he was without food all this time. Check out when he shot Vietnamese sniper hunting him, both see each other and Carlos put the bulletin in his eye right through his rifle's scope

i mean to say that in real suicide time sniper ops hunting is not easy nor during Artillery fire because in first sniper only is at certain position for few seconds and in second case sound of guns suppress that of sniper rifle sniper in untraceable in that case most of time at LOC PA and IA snipers operate along with Artillery fire.Hunting sniper is easy if he misses a shot using Thermal units and of course tracing bullet path only you need to direct heavy fire on that position most of time it works.

Now it's becoming essential role of a sniper, put him in danger zone and guy can do recce, directing indirect fire, if gets close enough with a laser designator can also direct air strikes on short notice, and now killing costly equipment himself. Put a guy with anti material rifle near an air or army base, and he would wreak havoc

Sir it seems good in movies but an alone sniper is never equipped with that rifle until it is known that enemy will lack proper response because it is heavy that means it hinders movement.

So how can one be considered a sniper in today's battlefield if he can't carry a .50 caliber and handle it on his own

These teams are often operating in squad level with armed UAV's loitering on head,but in case of alone sniper weight is not problem but end is problem large caliber means low amount of ammo.

At least two or three men are viable lone sniper thing is long gone, for most jobs. And just count holes, ammo should do it's part when hunting equipment if you know what I mean

Best sniper hunter is tank. Can kill from 4 kms, even if he is hiding deep inside building.

Another plus is that sniper won't outrun the tank during his escape if he's deep inside enemy territory.
