This is racism.

No surprises here. Pashtuns always have been ridiculed and disrespected. After all, they're treated like 2nd class citizens for decades.

Of course this is racism at its height. I wonder how this insult of a whole race was allowed to air on our national TV channel. It couldn't have been possible unless the program executive and producer also belonged to the same faith as of the poet (Jawad Hassan Jawad). By appearance he looks like belonging to Hazaras or Parachinaris... at least his name (Jawad Hassan Jawad) indicates he belongs to a certain sect in Pakistan which hates Pashtoons from the core of their hearts for them being 'Wahabis and Deobandis' and 'Taliban' etc.

Maybe you know that since the last decade after the Taliban factor active in Parachinar and other parts of Pakistan, hundreds of 'jokes' have been circulated through short message service via mobile phones making fun of 'Pathans'.

Ordinary folks cannot see the stratum of these things, but a well informed person like me can.

But his accent is neither of Hazara nor of Turis. He is definitely a Punjabi. Besides his typical Punjabi accent, his pronunciation of English words is also of Punjabis. In the following video , he is saying "sa-pace" instead of space......thats how Punjabis say it.

Everyone pronounce like that, watch video of pashtun saying space and you will hear same thing. He is actually mimicking pathan accent. Only thing I found after googling his name, poet and Islamabad professor is this.

this is guy named Jawad Hassan, professor in Islamabad and who won poetry competition is indeed punjabi from Sargodha originally but its not him.

Someone on twitter said Jawad Hassan was pashtun himself but I can't find any source to back up. But without proof people automatically assumed he was punjabi and started insults and not even jokes, hence hypocrites.

I watched full video and other poets from punjab are speaking in punjabi in between, only this guys isn't along with Karachi ones. Which mean he will likely need written paper to tell joke in punjabi if any.

But yes he could be punjabi but so far the evidence isn't there.

People who grow up among Punjabis adopt their accent. Half of my relatives grew up in Punjab and adopted their accent. Punjabis, Pathans, Sindhis, Baloch etc who are born and raised in Karachi speak like Urdu speakers by 100%. You can't trace their ethnicity unless you meet their elders.

I used the allegory of 'Parachinar' to suggest that he probably belongs to the same sect. These people hate Pashtoons to the bone.. and in this particular poetry, this hatred is being depicted humour coated.

Sectarianism is not a new phenomenon which started before Eid in Parachinar.

I know these things better than you know yourself.

Urdu is my mother tongue; besides I'm good at Urdu, I've read and heard loads of Urdu poets. This 3rd class jugat baaz, Syed Jawad Hassan, is not even funny. The language he's chosen for this so called poetry is nowhere literary but is colloquial.

Now this is exaggeration and an attempt to use flaming. Don't feed your beast of racism using this. Even Non-Pashtoons are defending Pashtoons here.

This gatiya poetry was aired on PTV, national television and on the occasion of Eid. There should be some limits that should be set which should not be crossed by the poets if they are appearing on national television. What they do in private gatherings, is of no concern to me.

I'm not supporting what that particular man said, but I find you to be quite hypocritical when you are always lambasting Punjabi people. Now when you and your 'superior' Afghan friends insult Punjabis on that forum, what do you expect me to do? Start cursing out your mothers? I just stay strong and ignore it, because I know there are plenty of uneducated and down right idiotic people that say a lot of things. I try to look for the good people and ignore the idiots.

What are you going to do at the end of the day? Go beat up everyone that says something negative about Pashtuns? There are too many people on this Earth, so why even take idiots seriously? You are a doctor and very well educated, but to me it seems like you are not mentally mature. Just let that shit go. Who even cares?
