At least 24 civilians were killed today when two roadside bombs exploded near passing vehicles in Afghanistan's western province of Herat. (Minibus)

At least 11 people were injured.

Afghan officials say women and children were among the casualties.

In a separate attack today, a suicide bomber detonated a truck bomb near the entrance of a U.S.-run compound in southeastern Afghanistan.

A spokesman for U.S.-led coalition forces, Nicholas Conner, said two Afghan security guards were killed by the explosion.

There were no casualties among U.S. troops.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack at the U.S.-run Provincial Reconstruction Team in the city of Gardez, the capital of the southeastern province of Paktia.
