Aliexpress search engine is known because no matter what stupid thing you search for, it always show results, even if it's absolutely unrelated or even if you put random characters in the search bar.

You can search "rwewebsiaha adqwehdie" in Aliexpress and it will show results.

But there is one terrible combination of two words, 9 letters, that makes Aliexpress search engine show zero results.

Do you guess what is?

A little clue:

. .
well if bible is the clue I'm guessing 'child p0rn'?

The clue is dont say the name of God in vain.

The answer is: Xi Jinping

Do you imagine that Amazon would show results in any search except when you type "Joe Biden" ?

I wonder, is it forbidden in China merchandising about Xi? You can't wear a tshirt with Xi pic?

Oh yea Xi's name is two words in English I forgot.. maybe they don't want to see things like toilet papers with Xi printed on it

Aliexpress is kinda overrated to me.
Lazada (affiliated with Alibaba) does the job better.

For the actual foreign stuff, it's better to order Amazon.

It depends of the country where you are.

Here in Spain, AFAIK Aliexpress is the biggest online retail platform to buy to China.

But that could be controlled forbiding to sellers certain articles names or descriptions.

Instead forbiding users searches.

Why? Is it because Amazon is more expensive while Aliexpress is cheaper?

I check for stuff like GPU and they are nearly the same price.

many Chinese businesses are excessively self-censored even when the authorities don't require them to do so, I guess they are just lazy and don't want any trouble.

Yes, in certain articles Aliexpress is often cheaper than Amazon (although Aliexpress often is slower than Amazon in the shipment).

But I didnt say that Aliexpress is bigger than Amazon here, Amazon is less Chinese made exclusive than Aliexpress (I know Aliexpress also have non-Chinese things, but a lot less than amazon).

Amazon is more trusted than Aliexpress (if there are problems), and it's more used to buy expensive things.

It's useful know about Aliexpress alternatives in other countries, even if they can't sell to your country, because you can see customers reviews opinions and pics/videos of the same articles.

I know Shopee (it's not available to buy here, but I watch it to view customers opinions about Aliexpress items, e.g: Shopee allow customers to upload videos in the reviews, and Aliexpress only pics).

I know TaoBao and Jd.com (Chinese mainland Aliexpress kind of online shop). Although they sometimes forbid me see articles because I have non Chinese IP address.

I tried another searches like Deng Xiaoping or Mao Zedong, and it shows results.

I tried "CCP" and the results are unrelated (it shows things about CCCP, USSR), I think that must be the common behavior in censorship.

But "Xi Jinping" is the most forbidden string of characters, no autocomplete, zero results .

It's like talk about Xi or CCP is a taboo in China, even if it's to praise them.

well I tried to search Xi's name on some of the Chinese online stores I use but the results are only books, no t-shirts, no other merch, which is weird. I never knew about this until now, lol.

I think maybe because Xi spent better half of his adolescent years during the Cultural Revolution when Mao was worshiped like a semi-god, he may grew disgusted by the personality cult stuff.

LOL, in the US celebrities can sue if they find stuff linked to their names that they personally didn't endorsed or got financial compensation. You think Aliexpress wants to risk getting sued by Xi for merchandise that come up in a search under his name? It's just common sense to censor particular topics to legally protect oneself!

Like in a certain Chinese MMORPG game (available in the West), I cannot create a character with the last name "Ye" because the copyright holder of The King's Avatar, whose character surname is famously named "Ye" would sue that game company. It's all common sense!

Forbid sell certain items is ok and normal.

The weird is forbid searches :enjoy:

I think the semigod or even God here is Xi, you can't say his name in vain in Aliexpress search bar.

Why is forbid search weird? Forbid search is self protection. In the case of a potential lawsuit, Aliexpress can say, "look we did censor that search term", and then the judge will absove Aliexpress of all legal responsibilities!

Because it's unneeded, if you dont sell Xi things, you dont need forbid Xi searches.

And even it's more weird thinking how works Aliexpress search bar, that it always show results even if you put random chars.

You clearly don't know how China works, if there is no forbidden searches, China will crack down on that company. Plus forbidding certain search terms is for own protection from legal lawsuits. In other words, you a dumb company if you don't have search term censors, but a smart company if you do.
