That's the nature of war now, very puny munitions can now fly quite a distance, and artillery spotting is easy to get when you can strap on a cellphone onto a quadcopter for $100.

PHL03 was a corps level system, but now a sub-divisional one. Latest munitions shoot 200km, and have options for loitering munitions with UHF, and SATCOM as payload.

LR SAM's aren't supposed to target or defend themselves against drones. That's the job of other AD systems which are made for such purpose...

They didn't go for Iron dome because it never was as effective as people were making it out to be neither is the S400 or S500 but the current formation of KSA is the best in the business it is a network of multiple layer systems with THAAD, patriot and couple of other systems probably korean and mixed with something else but in total it is a layer of 7-8 systems and together they form a robust and the best defensive systems in the world
