How India rescued its tiger population from the brink—but Modi is risking it all

Lets look at the data. The most impressive increase in tiger population is in the most populous and industrialised parts whereas the least impressive in the least industrialised parts.

What gives? That if people have alternatives, they will not poach tigers???

Also, there is very strong reasons for changing old environmental laws that only ensures corruption for politicians and beureaucrats without actually contributing to compliance.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/05/w...wth-sweeps-away-environmental-rules.html?_r=0

Mr. Modi’s new government did inherit cumbersome regulations. The environmental activist Sunita Narain, in a recent article, described a system in which “the same project had to be cleared by five to seven agencies,” not one of which monitored compliance. Industrialists complained that corrupt inspectors made the rounds with their hands out, and that corrupt bureaucrats sat on files that were lined up for approval, waiting for bribes.
I was involved in a water project where supply line runs through a forest ..To replace old pipeline (which is running along road and had forest clearence years back) it took more than a year for us ..One engineer was reserved for that job ..This one is for just replacing old pipeline which supplies water to drought hit area in karnataka ..There was no need to cut any trees as pipeline was running side a road ..Under jairam ramesh many new project was stuck due to no clearence from environment ministry ..We as a country cant have this luxury of protecting environment at cost of overall development

LOL, they seem really desperate to blame Modi for something or another? :cheesy:
That is why Modi did the right thing in banning NGO's like GreenPeace , which were nothing but fronts of western countries using Environment activism to stall the growth of India and thereby affecting 2-3% of GDP.
Good thing they are banned now, let the Western countries and Tree huggers whine as much as they want.I am loving it.

Contrary to what this article has published, Modi's Home state Gujarat is the only place where the Asiatic Lion still lives in wild and it's population has increased manyfold so much that some states like UP are asking for Few lions to be set free in their state National park as a breeding program.
While, here this article blames Modi for environmental disaster.

That thing is BIG !!
Dude thats a Liger a cross between a Tiger and a Lion produced by breeding, not natural and they are kept as pets by some wealthy businessmen, not found in the wild.Google Liger!

Go ahead report it.... I am not one of you to stoop that low. Please check your link again and make accusations..

I don't have to do much hard work to get your Modi to gutter, its his very own party members doing it for me...;)
Na, don't take it otherwise. You are just doing your duty.

Are you one of those AAP monkeys ? :D
Naah, they are officially secular. MIM, may be.

. . .
I meant 'Indian secular'. People can't actually be 'secular'. Institutions can. India is in a different world.

The Indians here say China is not secular, because apparently our state gives more importance to Atheism. :P

But actually it is the Chinese government itself that is promoting Confucianism, Buddhism and other traditional Chinese belief systems recently.

The "Confucius institutes" for example.

Not exactly secular either though.

Wow my state has 340 tigers, high time I got a pet one. I am surprised sunderbans has only 76. What about the Gir lions, all of them seem to be concentrated in one reserve. They should be more spread out or an epidemic could wipe them out
I am not sure about the article, but Modi can be blamed for stopping gir lion from spread to other locations. Some sort of fake regional pride.. as it it will make gujjus brave.

promoting any faith(or even atheism) is not secularism.. so no if chinse govt is doing it, its not secular.

I agree with you. Didn't you read the last line of my post?

Anyway, do you think India is secular right now?

I thought you were trying to be sarcastic or something... :p:
India is higher on secularism scale wrt china but lower wrt western countries like USA or france.
We have stated policy of being secular(good) but certain provisions violates that( not good).

.
Guys please.

Let this thread be about tigers?

There are enough for these secular discussions elsewhere.

And AFAIK all tigers are secular.

Indian institutions, still are as much secular as they were an year back. If thats secular enough, is upto individual judgement.

Dont be taken away, by the everyday nonsense coming out of Indian ministers. They cater more to the votebank.

By the way - I have got no idea what tigers have to do with secularism. :-/
