Hockey World Cup

Ohh acha bhai India is the strongest team in the WC. Ab khush

I never said that.

The world cup has play off's for position 3 to 12 besided the final which will decide spot 1 and 2.

Lets wait for the results.

Why comment prematurely?

If India is 12th obviously they will be the weakest. If not we will see. This has improved the prospect for another India-Pak match for the 5 to 12 position play offs.

jana i think we should make cricket the national game and maybe then hockey will improve

Well its all about that massive betting in Cricket.

Hockey is quite a good game we had been wining it and the Westerners used to be afraid of Pakistani and Indian hockey thats why they introduced biased rules which often make us victims and they win.

No.

Cricket and apparently money has put every other sport behind.

India has only 13 quality astroturfs where International matches can be played.

We have Cricket Stadiums 4 times than that.

Hope you get point.

exactly my point about cricket and money.

I said it before we dont have much facilities regarding hockey as compared to silly cricket game.

The astroturfs was also introduced because the Asian teams were good on natural grass grounds.

I think we should have two different types of tournaments like Astroturf field tournament and Grass field tournament. This will be exactly on the lines of how Tennis is played on Grass court and Clay court. It will help our Asian teams alot in my opinion.

If I am not wrong we won 2 out of four Olympic hockey gold medal on astroturfs.

Just look at Pakistani and Indian Players. Asian style is personal skills and short pass. Do Pakistani or Indian Players now practice it?:no:

Our players are not playing their natural game. They play like Europeans. Long passes .....

Eng players committed intentional fouls: Ashraf: Rediff Sports

Pakistan captain Zeeshan Ashraf on Thursday demanded action against some English players who, he alleged, resorted to intentional foul play in the Pool B match of the hockey World Cup in New Delhi.

Zeeshan said one England player intentionally fouled Irfan Muhammad in the second half but he went scot-free.

"Irfan was hit by an England player and it was intentional. Just like Shivendra Singh was banned, the tournament director should see the match video footage and he (the English player) should be suspended," said Zeeshan after his side lost 2-5 in their third Pool B match.

Zeeshan, however, did not say that Pakistan would lodge a complaint with the tournament director.

Striker Rehan Butt also said that the England players committed some intentional fouls and the tournament directors should take note of that.

"The tournament director should take action as there was intentional fouls (by England players) after seeing the video footage just like had been done in case of Shivendra," the star striker said.

Zeeshan conceded that some individual mistakes also cost the team dear besides the two yellow cards they got in the second session after they restored parity from 0-2 down at the breather.

"England played well in the first half. We came back strongly in the second half by scoring two goals but the two yellow cards slowed down the tempo of our comeback.

"Moreover we made mistakes in the second session. Though it will be difficult to make it to the semi-finals it is not over for us. We would look to win the last two matches and see what happens," he said.

Asked about poor performance of star drag-flicker Sohail Abbas and striker Rehan Butt, Zeeshan said, "Sohail could not score from two penalty corners and we think England goalkeeper had come prepared. Rehan though was off-colour today."

Rehan Butt agreed that the third goal by England was due to the mistake of goalkeeper Salman Akbar.
"We had some individual mistakes and that contributed to our loss. Salman had a mistake and that led to the third goal. But it is part of the game," said Rehan.

South Africa earned his first victory at the field hockey World Cup on Saturday by beating Pakistan 4-2.

Both South Africa and Pakistan have been eliminated from the knockout round after only winning one of its first four matches.

Pakistan opened the scoring in the fifth minute through striker Rehan Butt to lead 1-0 at halftime. But Gareth Carr equalized in the 38th minute on a penalty corner before field goals from Ian Haley, Tanie Paton and Marvin Harper gave South Africa a 4-1 lead.

Pakistan pulled back two goals in the last three minutes on penalty corners through Muhammad Imran and Waseem Ahmed.

Earlier, title favorite Australia moved closer to the semifinals by defeating Spain 2-0.
